Rukia got in late last night. Rather than risk waking her roommate, she'd tended to her own injuries in the living room, swigging a few potions before dragging the throw off of the back of the couch and curling up to sleep in front of the dying fire.
She was sleeping on her stomach when Jack came down, her cheek mashed into the armrest of the couch, one arm slung over the edge as she slept deeply. He was quiet enough not to rouse her at first until she heard the gentle clatter of his wooden sandals.
Her lashes peeled back as she partially cracked open one eye, staring blearily at the polite samurai. For a moment she just watched him, wondering where he was off to at this early hour. When she noticed the backpack, it became obvious that he wouldn't be returning for quite some time. Maybe not ever.
"Where are you going?" she mumbled sleepily, peering at him. Surely he wasn't about to march off and fight some giant monster on his own, right? That would be severely foolish.
