Hei | Darker Than Black

2. [Home Chooking; known as Li]

As it stood, everything about this world worked against Hei. Well, save for food of course. And now living with others, his life would not doubt get more problematic. As much as he was used to living in an apartment, the structure was a bit different. However, as he shopped for food, he happened upon an idea. Being a hospitable resident would certainly help get closer to them, to know them. And between talking and cooking, he'd rather cook.

So he can be found cooking in the kitchen, casually switching between the use of the oven and chopping up more vegetables and such like a pro. Eventually, he notices you, and gives his usual fake smile; to others in this world, he was known as Li.

"Ah, thought I heard someone. Dinner will be ready shortly."

4. [CHOCOBO CATCHING]

Hei was used to eating poultry in a variety of ways, and cooking them in just as many. Using giant chickens to travel...not so much. With no Chocobo to ride of course, he had to capture one of his own. Immediate dread fell onto him. Given their overall size and mobility from simply seeing them ride, they were no doubt stronger and quicker than a horse. If they could survive in the wild against monsters, fighting them was not an option, especially when he needed to ride one.

Luckily, the opportunity did allow him to act the part of the goof that was Li, managing to try and get onto the featery steed...now if only the Chocobo would listen and stop. He had been riding for what felt like an eternity, holding on for dear life. Horse taming was not part of his training regimen, let alone taming wild animals and monsters.

"Calm down already!" he shouted, trying to pet its head, almost nearly getting it bitten off from the giant bird. If only he could just shock the damn bird.

Didn't matter if he was in character or not, this situation was not going well at all! The Chocobo of course refused to listen, suddenly sprinting further into the forest against Hei's wishes. Almost immediately, Hei hit a branch due to the high speed, knocked to the ground.

He coughed, glaring into the branches above blocking the sun as his almost bird-ride fled. Yep, this perfectly symbolized his life. He made a mental note to have chicken later, if possible.

...What did fried Chocobo taste like? His stomach growled, and he frowned. "Story of my life."

10. [MALBORO HUNTING]

Nothing was ever easy. Of course they'd find some way to rope him into another mission.

At least being a ninja gave him more of an excuse to wear a mask. He didn't need to hold back. Not many people knew of the man under the mask after all. Well, they were used to a bumbling fool with an insane appetite. The assassin, the Black Reaper, was another story. As was hunting dangerous monsters. This would be his first outing against such creatures, and from what he could tell, they were the stuff of nightmares. He had only seen pictures of them in his glossary, and didn't fully know what to expect. Everything in this world was still very new to him, and he hadn't quite mastered this Job.

And when he came across the large creature, hunched over as if sleeping, bad thoughts quickly emerged. In a straight-up fight, given the ailments, the creature stood an advantage. Hei might be faster, but that was about the only edge he had right now. Just had to get the vine, presumably one of the tentacles. Simple enough. Strike with enough speed and force to one off, and run like hell. Easy.

He silently moved through the grass, and climbed the tree. The height from here should give him enough of a boost to hack away at this beast cleanly. In theory anyway. Gripping the hilt of his blade, he slowly breathed. Now he was reminded of when he was first doing this to regular people, all as a little kid. Slitting throats, strangling with wires, that was nothing new. That mindset was needed now more than ever. Just accomplish the mission and--

Though that plan failed, a snap quickly making the malboro wake up. Someone was here, and now Hei knew things were going to get problematic...
