It was quiet but Zell still heard Squall's 'friend from home' remark. That was much better than the vague 'yes I know you' thing that could have come from the local Squall too. Zell couldn't act on his elation though, not when Squall looked like he did and said what he did.
Zell looked down and put a hand to the back of his head. "Ah, sorry about that."
Dropping his hand and looking back up, Zell's expression turned very serious. It wasn't exactly a great story and the whole situation messed their house up quite a bit. "So, it happened about a year and a half ago, before I... went into crystal stasis. It was exactly like the kinda 'dreams' Ellone made us go through." But before Squall could say anything about that, Zell quickly added. "I checked, it wasn't her! She wasn't here. But anyway, in that dream, I was you from a really long time ago." He frowned. "I mean, really you, from home and everything! But you'd been here for years, got really strong in a bunch of jobs, probably one of the strongest here. But the whole time none of us showed up and you'd only became friends with some blond guy named 'Roxas'.
"Anyway, the calamity was spreading really bad. It was pretty much get rid of it or die time, but still no one knew how to do it! You were on a mission with a group of people, running from..." he gulped, remembering the unsettling image. "Running from a group of crystal stasis looking type enemies, only they looked like everyone from home. After so many years of not seein' us at all..."
"The bridge collapsed and half the team was taken out. You saved Roxas, but the rest of the group started fighting and accusing someone of rigging the bridge to explode. You didn't have time for it and moved on ahead. Eventually the rest of the group followed, but..."
He paused again. Longer this time. "But another one went off and you died." He shook his head. "When we woke up we were told you guys failed and lost everything." His frown deepened. He wasn't sure how that worked since they were still alive right now. "But your spirits stayed since you didn't have anywhere else to go and we were given an address. We went there and you were there... only you were local and didn't remember any of us or anything from home!"
