Something about the way Johnny presents himself takes the edge off Sephiroth's pre-judgment of him. At least he was being frank, if a little short. The silver haired warrior might imagine himself saying the same sort of thing, the difference being Sephiroth had almost seamlessly stepped from one Hero role into another. Even his first Job's had fit him to a T, unlike with so many others.

The fact that this newcomer referenced experiencing something like this before - now that was interesting. A twitch to the corner of Sephiroth's eyebrow, mostly hidden by his hairstyle, betrays this interest.
