1/ Welcome to the world of Crystallis!
You have seen reality shatter and collapse around you, in the depths of the void you found a Crystal and now you are in the city of Aqures Ixen, surrounded by Moogles and people as lost and confused as you are. On the bright side, everyone thinks you're a hero! On the downside, they expect you to save the world. Maybe their expectations are a bit too much. Thankfully, you're not abandoned to your fate as a Moogle explains to you everything you need to know. Maybe it's time to get to know your companions in misfortune. Besides, it seems this has occurred past month already-- Maybe some people who have been here for longer than you may help.

2/ Do you like your new life?
No? Well, either way, you better get used to it, to your new powers, to your new house, to the ball of fur that follows your every steps—Who knows, maybe you'll even make some friends here. Besides, even if everyone expects you to save the world, fighting isn't the only way to do so. Maybe you could open a shop to help and properly equip your friends who are actually eager to fight. Maybe you could try and gather people who think diplomacy can stop war, you could even start your own researches on the Crystals— Or you could make sure your house is the prettiest in all of Aqures Ixen. Anything is possible.

3/ Neighborhood woes
The government of Aqures Ixen is very sorry, but it seems there are too many of you Heroes of Light. Hence why there is no free houses left in district dedicated to housing you. This may also be why you're not alone in the house that was given to you. Hopefully you're not living with a mad villain plotting to take over the world late at night, and hopefully your neighbor isn't a singer who doesn't know how to sing. On the bright side, you may have someone very cool living with you and an artist next door! It's just not likely.

4/ Crystallis de Chocobo
Upon arrival, your Moogle gave you a map of Crystallis. This world may be a bit big for you to explore, so why not go to the Chocobo Farm and ask for a Chocobo? These big birds can't fly, but they're much more efficient than horses when it comes to travelling. Maybe it's your first time riding a Chocobo; it might be a good idea to have someone with you in case something goes wrong. Or maybe the old man at the farm didn't have any Chocobos left and gave you some Chocobo Lure© so you can go and capture your own. You can find details on Chocobo Capture here.

5/ A thing called Mognet
Hopefully you weren't used to Internet and cellphones back home. Otherwise, you might be a tiny bit confused when your Moogle returns to you with a stack of letters. Or maybe someone else's Moogle is coming to you with a voice message it learnt by heart and is now going to recite to you with a lot of Kupo. That's how the "network" works here.

6/ A thing called Strike
In spite of how old-fashioned it is, Mognet is very useful and odds are that you may have become dependent on it. Hopefully not, because one local tradition seems to be Mognet Strikes. Nobody knows any more whether the Moogles have legitimate reasons to go on strike or if they are just lazy. But today, Mognet is down, and to get information you have no choice but going to the public board in the third district or in taverns.

7/ I believe I can fly~
You are on an Airship! Airships regularly depart from Aqures Ixen and stop by most major cities in the world, so they're the perfect means of transportation for you to go and explore this world. You can go anywhere in a matter of hours — One can only hope you don’t have motion sickness.

8/ Exploration
Enough expository banter. Now is the time to explore. Maybe rather than spending most of your time in Aqures Ixen, you'd rather spend it living in Balicea, or betting on Chocobo Races in Trano Golsaucia. Or maybe you'd rather go and explore some ancient ruins that may hold some precious information. With Airships and Chocobos at your disposal, you can go nearly anywhere that isn't under imperial control; unless you have a death wish of course.

9/ Random Encounter
You were minding your own business walking around, and suddenly monsters attacked you! Time to put to use the skills you've learned with your Jobs! Alternatively, maybe this encounter isn't random at all, and you have been sent on a mission to kick some imperial asses in the war confronting the Heran Empire and the Republic of Esdham. Good luck!

10/ Getting Jobs is hard
It all started when you asked Cid to give you a new Job. What could and should have been a formality, quickly turned into a trial. All you wanted was a Job, and here you are in the wild, hunting for a Malboro Vine. Or maybe you are in some ancient and decrepit ruins looking for an artifact. Or yet again, maybe she simply asked you to assist her in her researches on the Crystals. Getting new Jobs is not easy. Consider yourself happy though, at least you don't have to do that alone.

11/ The world is subject to unrelenting pain and suffering…
This is why you should play a game. After all, there are things a lot more important than saving the world: Blitzball is one of them. Triple Triad is another. Why don't you take a break and do something different for once; anyone wanting to play Blitzball is given a special potion allowing them to breath underwater, whereas someone who wants to play Triple Triad should have no difficulties finding veterans more than happy to get rid of their low level cards.

12/ Events of the Past
Missed an event you would have liked to participate in? The Test Drive Meme is the perfect place to play this event without being restricted by the game's chronology! Maybe you would have liked to capture a Chocobo during Crystalis de Chocobo, maybe you would have liked to be lost and attacked from all sides in the creepy Magitek Research Facility, or maybe you'd like to celebrate the Christmas of Crystallis. Yet again, maybe you would have liked to regain your true power and subsequently be on your path to death, as in The Night of the Thirteen Moogles. Or how about participating in Christmas at Crystallis or fighting in a war for the warriors among you?

13/ Wild Card
Don't like the options offered here? Go crazy and choose what you want to do in this world!

Following Ven's lead, Cid too peers around their little piece of the city for that familiar head of blond hair. Seeing nothing, he again focuses his attention on the boy, his expression softening enough to grant him a satisfied smile.

"Now we're gettin' somewhere!" he says as if his moogle hadn't been any help. He ignores the quiet, gloomy sigh from his companion in favor of asking a question. "A friend of Cloud's is a friend of mine. What's yer name, kid?"
makingfriends: or whatever let's just be FRANDS (You can call me Ven!)

[personal profile] makingfriends 2015-10-21 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
The pleased response brings Ven's smile back in a heartbeat. "Ventus!" he offers cheerfully. "Just Ven is fine. And this is Mograe," he adds, at which point his moogle bows her head in greeting. Judging by the behavior of Cid's moogle, she's deeming it best to let Ven do all the talking.

And talking, Ven will certainly do. "Nice to meet you," he continues. "I haven't been here as long as Cloud has, but if there's anything else you want to know, I'll try to help!"

[personal profile] vsloonywizard 2015-10-21 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's real nice of you." He means it too, always grateful for a helping hand during tough times. Cid will certainly take advantage of it too, as he is known to do. He's also known for returning the favor. His arms unfold and his hands come to rest on his hips.

"In fact, there is somethin' I'd like to know. You know anyone with gummi blocks in town?" His confidence that gummi block are common knowledge will come back to bite him eventually.
makingfriends: and he still can't count... although technically this is before all that... (several games later)

[personal profile] makingfriends 2015-10-21 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Gummi... blocks?" Ven echoed uncertainly. He shot a look at Rae, who shrugged. "Uhh -- I don't think so. What are they? Maybe I've seen 'em before." He'd run into several forms of technology that he hadn't previously recognized, so it was possible. He couldn't begin to guess what something with the word "gummi" in it could be used for outside of food, though.

[personal profile] vsloonywizard 2015-10-21 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ya don't know what gummi blocks are?" Cid radiates disbelief. Briefly pressing a thumb against his nose, he delves into a long-winded explanation complete with underlying enthusiasm for his occupation. Stick around a while, Ven.

"They're the foundation of gummi ships! Ya can't have a gummi ship without gummi blocks. Judgin' by how squishy they are, you'd think they make a weak ship." He shakes his head and flicks his toothpick. "Wrong! They're hard to break down. Put the right blocks together and you got a near-indestructible vessel perfect for space." The man's chest puffs up in pride. "If I can get my hands on enough blocks, I can build one and get goin'. Got things to do elsewhere."
makingfriends: (I'm afraid to even ask)

[personal profile] makingfriends 2015-10-22 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh! So they're ship materials!" That makes sense! ...Sort of! ...Okay, no, but Ven's taking Cid's word for it. "They've got ships here, but they're not the kind that can leave this world -- just ships for the water, and airships that don't fly high enough to leave." Believe him, he's asked.

"You might be able to find somethin' useful at the port, though," he adds. That's his best guess, anyway. "Maybe someone there has heard of 'em."

[personal profile] vsloonywizard 2015-10-22 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"I know how to get to the port!" his moogle interjects, floating closer so that she can converse more efficiently. "I can take you there, kupo!"

Cid regards her calmly but the look in his eyes suggests he's still not going to trust her. He chooses to question Ven rather than follow his fuzzy accomplice. "Sounds good! Which way's the port? And where can a guy get a map?"
makingfriends: or whatever let's just be FRANDS (You can call me Ven!)

[personal profile] makingfriends 2015-10-22 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Rae shoots the other moogle a sympathetic look, but Ven's already turning to her. "Oh -- do you have it with you?"

"One moment, kupo--" After a moment of digging around in her bag, Rae produces a folded piece of paper -- a little worn, but not too much -- that Ven takes with a word of thanks.

"It's a map for most of Crystallis, not just the city," he tells Cid. "Some areas are missing since we can't get there, but it gives you a good idea of the area around here. You can borrow it if you want!" It has a few handwritten notes of his -- mostly monster locations in the plains around Aqures Ixen; note-taking is a useful habit he picked up from Zelda way back -- but it's readable.

"And the port's this way," he adds with an indicative step down the street. Unless Cid shakes him off, he'll plan on leading the way.

[personal profile] vsloonywizard 2015-10-22 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
The moogle, whose name Cid conveniently forgets, despondently observes the trio. All she wants to do is help! Recognizing that he is currently a lost cause, she figuratively steps back so that Ven can resume the lead. While pining for Cid to listen to her, just once, the man picks up the map. His eyes rove over the regions and their landmarks as he paints for himself a mental map.

He takes a moment to look up over the top edge of the map and eyes the kid. Then he motions in his direction with the map, urging him on. "I'll follow you," he affirms, his eyes again dropping to the paper. How he will follow Ven when he is so engrossed in the map is unclear, but he will manage. "By the way, how do you know Cloud?"
makingfriends: (I owe them everything I'll be)

[personal profile] makingfriends 2015-10-23 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
With an affirmative nod, Ven turns to take the lead with Rae following close. "I met him here," he explains. "He works at the Ranch a lot -- he helped me catch a Chocobo a little while back, actually!" There's some obvious respect and gratitude in his tone; Cloud's definitely a good friend as far as Ven's concerned, not just a passing acquaintance.

...Even if he did show up at the date auction in a dress that one time...

"He's told me a lot about his world. He said Zack and Sephiroth come from there, too."

He tilts his head thoughtfully. "He might've mentioned some other friends, too. So maybe the ones you mentioned are here, after all." Ven's aware he hasn't met all of the Heroes directly, so it's quite possible he's overlooked some names.

[personal profile] vsloonywizard 2015-10-27 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
If there was a Zack or a Sephiroth in Radiant Garden, Cid would surely know them by now. Ven appears confident in his knowledge and is happy to help so the man has no reason to doubt him, but one would assume these names would be familiar. Unfortunately, they are not, and this makes him suspicious.

He lowers the map again to ask more questions. "Who're Zack and..." His nose crinkles as he stumbles through a poor pronunciation. "Se-phy-roth?" His face then smooths out. "I ain't heard of them before. You know these two too? What are they like?"
makingfriends: (/chinscratch)

[personal profile] makingfriends 2015-10-27 01:54 pm (UTC)(link)
It seems a little strange that Cid wouldn't have heard of the friends of a friend, but Crystallis was a pretty big wake-up call for Ven regarding the size and complexity of some worlds; it's possible the matter just didn't come up, right?

Yeah, he'll go with that.

"Oh--" he glances over his shoulder, mildly surprised, "Cloud said that Zack's a really close friend of his. He's in that force, SOLDIER -- Sephiroth, too. They both inspired Cloud to join, it sounds like." As for what they're like, Ven has to consider that a moment more. "Zack's a really good guy! And a great fighter. I don't know Sephiroth very well, but he seems nice enough. He's really good in a fight, too."

Cid may not have asked about their fighting skills, but in Ven's defense it's simple habit to include his impression of their abilities in with their personalities.

[personal profile] vsloonywizard 2015-10-27 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
The Cloud that Cid knows is a taciturn young man, prone to alienating himself and brooding in secrecy. As a result, he knows very little of Cloud's history, especially between the fall of their world and the creation of the Restoration Committee.

Feeling confident about his whereabouts in Crystallis, Cid begins folding up the map. "He probably met 'em before we met up," he concludes. "He had nine years to make friends in other places. That explains all his fancy moves out in the field. You ever seen him fight? He's quick, I'll give him that."

Picking up a bit of speed, the man moves up to Ven's side to return his map with a quick, "Thanks."
makingfriends: (Something I can put my faith in)

[personal profile] makingfriends 2015-10-30 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't think I've seen him go all-out before, but he's tough, yeah," Ven agrees with a proud smile. He takes the map back and passes it to Rae, who tucks it back safely inside her bag. By now the port's in sight, recognizable even at this distance thanks to the airships currently docked. Hypellos as well as humans can be seen busy at work.

"That's it right there," Ven announces, perhaps a bit unnecessarily. "I'm sure you can ask around for what you're looking for."
