Character: [OU] Jade Curtiss
Canon: Tales of the Abyss
Info: Ex-scientist turned army colonel, with a morally questionable past. Jade tends to communicate mostly through cool pleasantness or biting sarcasm and doesn't warm up to people very quickly -- though he has been known to unintentionally wind up as a mentor figure to people younger than him, however much he insists he hates teaching. He also smiles a lot for no apparent reason.
Job(s): Scholar & Blacksmith equipped, mostly Mage Jobs on reserve.
Housing: B-14, with Tear, Anise, and Ion.
Other Housing: Military barracks in Esdham.
Moogle: Rosepuff is both very affectionate and easy to rile up. She also believes firmly that Jade is secretly a Good Person who just needs to be broken out of his shell. So far her attempts at achieving this haven't been working.
Status: Jade is resolved to find a solution to their situation, however long it may take. It's pretty clear by now they're not going home anytime soon, if at all, and Jade's taking a pragmatic approach in dealing with it, focusing on what needs to be done next rather than worrying about it overly much. Right now, finding more information about Crystallis and the Calamity is on the top of his priorities.
Employment: Esdham military/part-time in Palitutu's lab. He's essentially traveling back and forth a lot, studying Magitek with the army's science branch and working on crystals and Jobs in Aqures Ixen.
Plans: Plans are somewhat vague at the moment. I need to work on backtags, though Jade will be joining the expedition to the Continent of Ruin. I'd like to make use of his ability to translate Ancient in any future trips and see if there's anything interesting to find. For long-term plans, he'll probably eventually quit the military to work full-time in the lab. I haven't decided when that will happen yet.
Desired CR: I'd like to start new CR in general! People for him to annoy, people to annoy him, people to talk serious business with, military and science buddies... If I can get Jade to accidentally make friends, even better. He hates it when that happens.
Undesired Things: Nothing I can really think of. Nothing permanently traumatizing, I suppose.
Shipping: Very unlikely to happen. One-sided crushes and joke ships are fine, but I tend to quickly lose interest in actually playing out romances.
Additional Comment: I've been pretty slow due to health reasons, but I do my best to backtag for as long as it takes!

Levy will be on the expedition too, and probably working on translating any Ancient they find. She's also likely to be interested in periodic trips back to do more of that, if Jade is into the idea of getting some research teams organized for that sort of thing in the future.

Oh, that would be a good way to get player plots going! Jade is definitely going to want to explore the continent often.

...In fact, this might mean quitting the military earlier than I had planned so he can concentrate completely on research and exploration. In which case he'd be happy to organize regular trips in the future.

Yeah, the Enterprise opens up for that kind of stuff next month, so I figure there will be ample opportunity for groups of people to head back to get into all sorts of shenanigans on the Continent of Ruin. And given how many places reference Ancient writing or untranslatable markings, there's enough there to keep our Scholars busy for a while. :D

Absolutely. I keep wanting to have Jade annoy Sparks but I always seem to miss the opportunity. That needs to happen.

I'm not as familiar with Graham but it seems like they could possibly get along well? In a strange way? If nothing else, they could probably troll other people pretty effectively.

Jade might start to have what he thinks is an intelligent conversation with Graham, until it take a complete 180 turn. Over and over again. He tends to lose track of what he's talking about easily. >_>

Platonic ruins exploration adventures and military missions are my true heart's desire. Rukia respects Jade, and should he need someone to accompany him on any quests, she'd be pleased and honored to join in. She'll start working on her scholar job as soon as she's finished with Ghostbuster, so maybe she can ask for pointers in the future.

I will continue to ask for all the swift-kick-up-the-ass that Jade has become rather good at getting Sephiroth to react to.

I do hope that Jade's pragmatic, proactive approach will start to rub off as well, given as he used to have much of the same attitude before all the reveals.

Then there is the growing-to-be-very-complicated situation with Terra....at this point I'm not sure though if he needs more of the sarcastic-poking at it, or if he needs a frank sit-down and talk about it.

It probably helps that with Jade, there's no coddling or mushy friendship speeches involved.

As for Terra, Jade's not that interested in meddling in other people's romances. He might tease occasionally, but I can't see him stopping to give Sephiroth actual advice. He's not the best person for it, anyway.

MORE! I find not overly planning with you works out really well in threads. We haven't had anything in awhile and I'd like to toss someone your way. Jade still has to get back at Yuna somehow and I'm a little bit curious. She's also helping out with the research stuff.

I was originally going to do something (not sure what exactly) during the time loop event... but then I ended up dropping those threads because of RL. So yeah, I still need to think of some way for Jade to troll her.

...Of course, letting her think he's forgotten about it could very well be part of the plan. He has a long memory~
