I see! So this was your aim at the date auction. A pity the bidding ended prematurely, I'm certain you would have commanded a much higher price for the charity. You are naturally very striking.

So much good intention, but yes this was essentially the idea a few mogs mentioned at the time. It didn't quite go to plan as you well know.

Thank you for the compliment; that striking was very much the intention, that break of a mold when I decided first to grow out my hair.

That isn't typical? How strange. Long hair for men is quite common in the Soul Society, though I know of very few with hair quite so long as yours.

The best laid plans never do go according to plan. I've had even worse luck here, in particular.

I chose to do it because I can, and I suppose there comes a certain age where one has a desire to prove that he can do whatever he puts his mind towards.

[Sephiroth went through a phase, as all teens tend to. The problem is, it was likely worse than most. After all, who could tell him no really when he was already skilled enough to hold near enough anyone at swords-edge if he wanted to.]

I forget exactly. It was around the time I started taking steps down my own path.

Or at least, as I thought so, at the time.

I was trying to picture what you must have looked like in your adolescence. It's difficult not to draw parallels with you and Renji, as he's the only one I grew up with during those years.

Bit shorter, bit skinnier, with a bit shorter hair. [Figures.]

I was a bit of a brat, a lot of the time.

Most are at that age.

But no less capable of great things. I'm constantly astounded by how much Ichigo is able to accomplish in his youth.
