Test Drive Meme

Applications will open on October 31st at 15:00 EST and close on November 08th at 14:59 EST
— Reply with a character you wish to test in the game's setting.
— Feel free to use one of the prompts below or make one of your own!
— Tag around! This is a panfandom RP, so don't hesitate to tag both castmates and non-castmates.
— Most importantly, have fun!
1/ Welcome To The World Of Crystallis!
You have seen reality shatter and collapse around you, in the depths of the void you found a Crystal and now you are in the city of Aqures Ixen, surrounded by Moogles and people as lost and confused as you are. On the bright side, everyone thinks you're a legendary Hero! On the downside, they expect you to save the world. Maybe their expectations are a bit too much. Thankfully, you're not abandoned to your fate as a Moogle explains to you everything you need to know. It's probably time to get to know your companions in misfortune. Besides, it seems this has occurred very often this past year-- Maybe the characters who have been here for longer than you may help.
2/ Do You Like Your New Life?
No? Well, either way, you better get used to it, to your new powers, to your new house, to the ball of fur that follows your every steps—Who knows, maybe you'll even make some friends here. Besides, even if everyone expects you to save the world, fighting isn't the only way to do so. Maybe you could open a shop to help and properly equip your friends who are actually eager to fight. Maybe you could try and gather people who think it is possible to negotiate with the Calamity, you could even participate in the research on the Crystals— Or you could make sure your house is the prettiest of them all in Aqures Ixen. Anything is possible!
3/ Neighborhood Woes...
The government of Aqures Ixen is sorry, but there are too many of you Heroes of Light. Hence why there are no free houses left in district dedicated to housing you. This may also be why you're not alone in the house that was given to you. Hopefully you're not living with a mad villain plotting to take over the world and hopefully your neighbor isn't a singer who doesn't know how to sing. On the bright side, you may have be living with someone very cool and maybe an artist of great talent lives next door! It's just not likely.
4/ Crystallis De Chocobo
Upon arrival, your Moogle gave you a map of Crystallis. This world may be a bit big for you to explore, so why not go to the Chocobo Farm and ask for a Chocobo? These big birds can't fly, but they're much more efficient than horses when it comes to travelling. Maybe it's your first time riding a Chocobo; it might be a good idea to have someone with you in case something goes wrong. Or maybe the old man at the farm didn't have any Chocobos left and gave you some Chocobo Lure© so you can go and capture your own. You can find details on Chocobo Capture here.
5/ A Thing Called Mognet
Hopefully you weren't used to Internet and cellphones back home. Otherwise, you might be a tiny bit confused when your Moogle returns to you with a stack of letters. Or maybe someone else's Moogle is coming to you with a voice message it learnt by heart and is now going to recite it to you with a lot of Kupo. That's how the "network" works here.
6/ A Thing Called Strike
In spite of how old-fashioned it is, Mognet is very useful and odds are that you may have become dependent on it. Hopefully not, because one local tradition seems to be Mognet Strikes. Nobody knows any more whether the Moogles have legitimate reasons to go on strike or if they are just lazy. But today, Mognet is down, and to get information you have no choice but going to the public board in the third district or in taverns.
7/ I Believe I Can fly~
You are on an Airship! Airships regularly depart from Aqures Ixen and stop by most major cities in the world, so they're the perfect means of transportation for you to go and explore this world. You can also borrow the Heroes of Light's official Airship, the Enterprise and some characters even have their own airship! You can go anywhere in a matter of hours — One can only hope you don’t have motion sickness.
8/ Exploration
Enough expository banter. Now is the time to explore. Maybe rather than spending most of your time in Aqures Ixen, you'd rather spend it living in Balicea, or betting on Chocobo Races in Trano Golsaucia. Or maybe you'd rather go and explore the ancient ruins that may hold some precious information in the continent of ruins. With Airships and Chocobos at your disposal, you can go nearly anywhere!
9/ Random Encounter
You were minding your own business walking around, and suddenly monsters attacked you! Time to put to use the skills you've learned with your Jobs! Alternatively, maybe this encounter isn't random at all, and you have been sent on a mission to kick some imperial asses in the war confronting the Heran Empire and the Republic of Esdham. Good luck!
10/ Getting Jobs Is Hard
It all started when you asked Cid to give you a new Job. What could and should have been a formality, quickly turned into a trial. All you wanted was a Job, and here you are in the wild, hunting for a Malboro Vine. Or maybe you are in some ancient and decrepit ruins looking for an artifact. Or yet again, maybe he simply asked you to assist him to clean the laboratory. Getting new Jobs is not easy. Consider yourself happy though, at least you don't have to do that alone.
11/ The World Is Subject To Unrelenting Pain and Suffering…
This is why you should play a game. After all, there are things a lot more important than saving the world: Blitzball is one of them. Triple Triad is another. Why don't you take a break and do something different for once; anyone wanting to play Blitzball is given a special potion allowing them to breath underwater, whereas someone who wants to play Triple Triad should have no difficulties finding veterans more than happy to get rid of their low level cards.
12/ Events Of The Past
Missed an event you would have liked to participate in? The Test Drive Meme is the perfect place to play this event without being restricted by the game's chronology! Maybe you would have liked to be lost and attacked from all sides in the creepy Magitek Research Facility or maybe you'd have liked to celebrate the Christmas of Crystallis. Yet again, maybe you would have preferred to regain your true powers and subsequently be on your path to death, as in The Night of the Thirteen Moogles or chase ghosts for a living. Or how about reliving some of your Worst Memories or fighting in A War for future of the world?
13/ Wild Card
Don't like the options offered here? Go crazy and choose what you want to do in this world!

Monkey D. Luffy - 12. Events of the Past
Gone was the laughter he'd shared with the few he had been close with, parting ways now that his head was swimming with confusion and loss. He'd been left now in the world he once called "home", feeling more like a stranger than ever before when the pirate should feel as accustomed to the setting as the birds and trees. So much of him was unsure of who was left and what hope remained, lingering emotions and connections that had been severed without warning. What arteries needed mending would take time to heal, even if in the past he had known that such relationships were stronger than any sort of connection possible.
So it was that Luffy looked at his old housing, the place he had once shared with Bloom, eyes locked upon the surprisingly unfamiliar building with an almost pained appearance at his features. The window panes brought with them a tortured feeling in his stomach, the brick bringing with it memories of their scent and texture in the many times he'd scaled them to reach the roof. His gut sank like the weight of a rock in the ocean upon looking at the door, taking from granted the countless days and nights when he'd turn the knob and come home from the ship to see Pakku and the girl he'd befriended without so much as a thought on whether or not the moment seeing them would be his last.
His hand falters, reaches out for a single moment, before fingers twitch and draw back from the direction of the entrance. It wasn't in him to second guess so many things, but with so much uncertainty and so much time against him, would the news that waited for him beyond the panels of wood and metal be the sort of facts he could handle? Would he find a future behind the door, or remnants of a time now lost to him?]
Re: Monkey D. Luffy - 12. Events of the Past
It's when he puts his coat back on again, and feels the slight pull of the half a card left in its breast pocket. The card that Jack had kept because he is ever sentimental, ever holding out hope for those who are gone. Despite a day of frustrating dead ends in the lab, Jack's whole face lights up and energy floods back into him.
"Captain."
Jack traversed the city in no time, first checking at the hospital and finding the Crystal statue gone. Then it was just a matter of beelining in the direction of the card. Literally. Jack uses the skill of the Dragoon Job to leap from rooftop to rooftop, letting no obstacle get in his way. Streets are for amateurs now.
When he finally spots him, Jack lets out one delighted laugh before he leaps down from the roof of the heroes house across the street. "I knew you'd come back. I just knew it."
Jack hesitates, but the excited grin doesn't quite leave his face. He raises his hand to salute Luffy. "Captain."
Re: Monkey D. Luffy - 12. Events of the Past
At a snail's pace does his head move, slowly falling as his vision looks away to the ground below, no longer caught in the spell of memories that had kept them there. A single hand raises to the bridge of his nose, a single finger extending as it brushes just above his upper lip, wiping away something obstructed with his back turned to the fellow Hero.
"Zelda's gone.. How many others have left since I got turned to crystal?"

Of course, being as Sephiroth often bolstered the law enforcement personnel with his own army at times given the swollen nature of the population plus refugees, it had also become an almost silent rule; if there were Heroes of Light in Crystallis that he didn't know about, he made it his business to find them out. It's not as if anyone had kept to the roster at the Heroes guild that had once been a thing.
Sephiroth has never been particularly close to Luffy, in fact more often than not --willingly or not-- they have been directly opposed to each other in the past. But to see that straw hat, outside of one of the houses in the residential district that he surely used to call home...it touches more to the observant soldier than he'd really be able to explain.]
Luffy-?
[A careful question, not quite void of emotion but more soft in tone than he tall silver-haired man often speaks with. He'll just pause on the outside of the gate, not crossing the threshold, for the time being.
It has been a long time.]
no subject
.. Sephiroth.
[He'd long had trouble with pronouncing the name of the man who'd once murdered Zelda, a gentleman he'd long been at unspoken odds with. To see him now, of all people, wasn't a choice Luffy would have consciously made. Still, there is little to no ill will in his heart, considering the length of time that must have passed since the last time they stood in the company of one another. Such things were not worth dwelling on, and there were far greater things of concern with the pirate than old battles and misunderstandings.
His eyes turned back to look at the house he'd been so fixed on, looking over brick and beam to study the sight of the familiar shelter.]
Yuffie's gone. Zelda, too. A few heroes aren't here any more.
[He brings a single finger up to his nose, brushing it under the bridge as he draws in a long sniffle before his skin begins to shiver in the cold evening air.]
Yuna and Rikku should be okay.. Ramza, Jack, there are a few other people in my crew that I haven't been able to find much on. Tell me- who all has left since I've been frozen?
no subject
That's right. [Long silver hair shifts a little in the freezing breeze that might bring a ground frost by morning; it is getting to that time of year in this region again.]
You should get inside, or at least get some more layers on first.
[Says the man un-phased by the open window of flesh at his chest. Sephiroth then takes another breath, slowly as he figures that to at least answer some of Luffy's query might help to encourage him.]
Yuna and Rikku, last that I saw them, were OK. Ramza and Jack, too. However, I don't think many keep a roster anymore.
no subject
Why's that? Do people not care about each other here anymore? Guess some things never change.
[He draws in a breath of air through his nostrils, like a bull sounding off before a charge. While Luffy wouldn't be trying to spear his way through any runners, his eyes certainly did seem to be just as much on fire as that of a raging steer. In his heart he knew that Sephiroth was not to blame for his being sealed away for so long, yet it was difficult to control his unpleasant behavior when knowing that so much had happened when he'd been sleeping at the switch.]
The cold's nothin' compared to how angry I am right now.
no subject
That's not it at all, really.
[Though the logical reason being that everyone was too busy, and as a result no one really held base at the Observatory anymore, seems like Luffy would only see it as an excuse and so Sephiroth doesn't elaborate further. The returned Hero of Light is wound up enough.]
I understand. Though being angry at the situation isn't going to fix it.
no subject
The pirate cocks his head to the side, looking ever more confused and frustrated at the remark he's given. Luffy is wise enough to know that being angry about any of this wasn't going to help, but it felt easier and more right to be upset than it did to calm or civil.]
I'm open to suggestions, even if I think they'll probably be stupid.
no subject
You're probably going to reject the idea, but it can be argued that stasis is the safest place for those who you care about- [The stoic face flinches a little at his own comment.]
-no matter much you miss them or want them by your side.
no subject
Safe? They can't fight for anything! They're just stuck there! They have no freedoms! No choice! You call that "safe"?!
[The sound of gritting teeth echos for a brief moment as Luffy snarls and grinds his jaws together.]
They'd be much safer dead than stuck in rock! They can't do any good being stuck there! I should know!
[Where he stands, he soon sits and drops to sitting with his legs crossed like a pretzel. Arms once more lock in front of his chest, his lips protruding out into a childish pout as eyes furrow in defiance to the given suggestion he'd received.]
That's not freedom, and it's definitely not safe.
[It takes him a moment before he realizes he's sitting down in the snow, his body showing no sign of shivering even though the most sacred of his extremities is practically nesting atop the sharp, cold bite of ice.]
no subject
[Sephiroth watches Luffy sit down on the freezing porch. He's in two minds about attempting to man-handle the stubborn pirate to at least get him indoors before he might do himself some real damage but at the same time he's not sure he wants to deal with flailing limbs or sandals to the gut.
He's pretty convinced there'd be hair-pulling too.]
I didn't mention anything of freedom. [Cool. Matter-of-factly.]
But they can't be harmed -or worse, killed. Their World is therefore protected, at least for the time being.
Which is more than I can say for you if you insist to sit out here in these frigid conditions. [He tries not to raise that one eyebrow, leveling a deadly serious look at Luffy.]
Heroes of Light are no longer immortal, here, Luffy.
no subject
You think I care? I've never lived my life thinking that I could just come back.
[A hand slaps down on one of his knees, the echoing cutting the silence with far greater depth than the wit of his words.]
What's the point of living if you don't take risks? What good are heroes if they don't fight for others? What good can heroes do when they're stuck in crystal? .. I used to think one person could change things here. That was stupid. No single person can stop what's happening here.
[Out with his finger again, pointing at Sephiroth as if there were something beyond where the man stood.]
What good is keeping Zelda and Yuffie in crystal if they don't have a world to come back to?! It's going to take all of us, all of us, to save this place! You think they're safe, but they're sitting ducks without any way of speaking up or trying to keep themselves protected from what's happening.
[He drags a long breath of air through his nostrils, the effects of the cold weather making him sniffle in the process.]
I don't care if I get sick! I told Pakku and Bloom that I'd always be here, so I'm going to wait until they come back! I won't lose them, too!
no subject
[Luffy's piercing gaze is reciprocated right back and down at him. Sephiroth already has a pretty firm idea where exactly the young boy had started first to get the wrong impression about him and the fact is that now it's not doing anything but making the exchange between the two of them more confrontational than helpful.
With a lifetime of taking risks and pulling them off under his belt, and the fighting for others that had since become much of Sephiroth's reason for living it's only natural for him to feel a little insulted as Luffy talks of the Crystal Stasis being counter-productive to those goals. He's not wrong, but it's hardly as if Crystal Stasis was a choice.
And then he mentioned Zelda. Regardless of Luffy's -in his opinion- misguided ideals Sephiroth considered that he'd been reasonably patient with the returned pirate until now. However, they were really getting no where and he wasn't about to reveal exactly that Zelda had died -for real- as did her World along with her.
With a firm shake of his head and a sharp 'hmph', Sephiroth turned away from the porch casting only a single look back over his shoulder.]
You've a lot to catch up on, I wouldn't sit around for too long.
