"I read in a book that those who end up under this plant are forced to kiss. I did not see any consequences, but the book seemed incomplete."

"One under a doorway creates a triple threshold, in such places odd magic is afoot."

A triple threshold? [Cue one clearly confused look.]

"This plant should grow in the ground, yet it grows in the air, thus being under it is one threshold. Another is the doorway itself. The third is the threshold of life and death, as it was the only thing that could kill the god Baldur. Thus under the three, all vows are void and the magic can compel anyone to physical contact without consequence!"

[He's doing a pretty good job of not looking any more lost but her reasoning is- rather odd. He gets the first, just about; if the mistletoe was on the ground they would be on it's threshold. The second is easy to understand also but that third...is earning a few extra beats of silence.]

A threshold of life and death-

[Sounds like something one would use to describe a natural fissure in the Lifestream or something.]

She peers at him oddly, like he's missing the simplest things.

"It was decreed as such by the Goddess Frigg after the death of her son. Given her marriage to Odin it was made into natural law."

I'm sorry but you lost me at Baldur. Assume these are other beings from your World?

"They are beings from many worlds, yet not all of them. Many worlds intersect on the level of their gods, yet others are not aligned with them."

[He now takes a discreet step back from that particular threshold, this is getting a little too strange for him.]

I'm not sure what Gods have to do with it?

"Much legend is based off of the old stories of Gods, is it not?"

She peers at him curiously.

That depends if you are from a World with Gods to have Legends written about them.

[He's not ever had much faith in such stories. The closest in his World are those beings called forth by Summon Materia - which in essence were remembered in some capacity by the Lifestream of the Planet, from eons ago.

Could they be Gods? Sephiroth finds it unlikely even if he knows that in Wutai at least they worship do Leviathan in that way.]

She ponders and taps her cheek lightly in thought.

"That is true, but this geis seems to have carried over from worlds, or at least it was mentioned to me to have. So one would think the legends that define it would also transfer in some way. Perhaps through a local god of the same name or something similar. Still it is a thing that may require research."

[He looks from Elizabeth to the Mistletoe once more. Still as if expecting something from it.]

Yes, I think I would agree with that.

"I wonder if there is a place that has the legends of this place. Or I wonder if the magic of this has to do with the collective consciousness of the guests brought here."

She plucks the plant down and eyes it, "It would help to know if the magic of this world comes from the sea of the soul, or some other form of power."

[Very interesting thoughts, at least. He watches her pluck it down and carefully regards her as if expecting an obvious side-effect to manifest itself. There was nothing of course but one had to be on the look out around such strange plants.

Especially given the unknown nature of magic in this world. Elizabeth's second remark caught his attention though.]

Sea of the soul? You mean like a Lifestream?

"Hrm... I know the sea of the soul. The place where the collective of humanity creates gods and monsters... All in defense against Nyx, who will bring about the great fall. I was created in the Velvet Room which is within the sea of the soul but... It is complicated beyond that."

She tilts her head a bit then looks at Sephiroth, "This lifestream. Is it based on life itself, or is it the source of life?"

[Not quite similar then, the Lifestream is not only a collective of human experiences and memories throughout time -all broken down into a great sea in it's own right- it's nothing less than the sum of all Life in his universe. At least those who undertook the study of Planet Life might suggest so.

He's already frowning curiously by the time she looks back to him. It's like a picture puzzle almost where the pieces don't quite fit together.]

It's the source of all life on my world, and all life returns to it, in a constant cycle. The energy keeps our Planet living so-

I guess an accurate answer to your question would be: it is both and yet neither.
