— Most importantly, have fun!

1/ Welcome to the world of Crystallis!
You have seen reality shatter and collapse around you, in the depths of the void you found a Crystal and now you are in the city of Aqures Ixen, surrounded by Moogles and people as lost and confused as you are. On the bright side, everyone thinks you're a hero! On the downside, they expect you to save the world. Maybe their expectations are a bit too much. Thankfully, you're not abandoned to your fate as a Moogle explains to you everything you need to know. Maybe it's time to get to know your companions in misfortune.

2/ Do you like your new life?
No? Well, either way, you better get used to it, to your new powers, to your new house, to the ball of fur that follows your every steps—Who knows, maybe you'll even make some friends here. Besides, even if everyone expects you to save the world, fighting isn't the only way to do so. Maybe you could open a shop to help and properly equip your friends who are actually eager to fight. Maybe you could try and gather people who think diplomacy can stop war, you could even start your own researches on the Crystals— Or you could make sure your house is the prettiest in all of Aqures Ixen. Anything is possible.

3/ Ukulele de Chocobo
Upon arrival, your Moogle gave you a map of Crystallis. This world may be a bit big for you to explore, so why not go to the Chocobo Farm and ask for a Chocobo? These big birds can't fly, but they're much more efficient than horses when it comes to travelling. Maybe it's your first time riding a Chocobo; it might be a good idea to have someone with you in case something goes wrong. Or maybe the old man at the farm didn't have any Chocobos left and gave you some Chocobo-Bait© so you can go and capture your own.

4/ A thing called Mognet
Hopefully you weren't used to Internet and cellphones back home. Otherwise, you might be a tiny bit confused when your Moogle returns to you with a stack of letters. Or maybe someone else's Moogle is coming to you with a voice message it learnt by heart and is now going to recite to you with a lot of Kupo. That's how the "network" works here.

5/ I believe I can fly~
You are on an Airship! Airships regularly depart from Aqures Ixen and stop by most major cities in the world, so they're the perfect means of transportation for you to go and explore this world. You can go anywhere in a matter of hours — One can only hope you don’t have motion sickness.

6/ Exploration
Enough expository banter. Now is the time to explore. Maybe rather than spending most of your time in Aqures Ixen, you'd rather spend it living in Balicea, or betting on Chocobo Races in Trano Golsaucia. Or maybe you'd rather go and explore some ancient ruins that may hold some precious information. With Airships and Chocobos at your disposal, you can go nearly anywhere that isn't under imperial control; unless you have a death wish of course.

7/ Random Encounter
You were minding your own business walking around, and suddenly monsters attacked you! Time to put to use the skills you've learned with your Jobs! Alternatively, maybe this encounter isn't random at all, and you have been sent on a mission to kick some imperial asses in the war confronting the Heran Empire and the Republic of Esdham. Good luck!

8/ Getting Jobs is hard
It all started when you asked Jessie to give you a new Job. What could and should have been a formality, quickly turned into a trial. All you wanted was a Job, and here you are in the wild, hunting for a Malboro Vine. Or maybe you are in some ancient and decrepit ruins looking for an artifact. Or yet again, maybe she simply asked you to assist her in her researches on the Crystals. Getting new Jobs is not easy. Consider yourself happy though, at least you don't have to do that alone.

9/ The world is subject to unrelenting pain and suffering…
This is why you should play a game. After all, there are things a lot more important than saving the world: Blitzball is one of them. Triple Triad is another. Why don't you take a break and do something different for once; anyone wanting to play Blitzball is given a special potion allowing them to breath underwater, whereas someone who wants to play Triple Triad should have no difficulties finding veterans more than happy to get rid of their low level cards.

10/ Wild Card
Don't like the options offered here? Go crazy and choose what you want to do in this world!

Luke fon Fabre (game transplant edition) | Tales of the Abyss

3/ Ukulele de Chocobo
After deciding to give the, uh...'chocobos' a try, Luke found himself at a farm. He'd been told that the person in-charge would be there, soon, so to just wait in the barn. Minutes later, he'd found himself checking out the stalls. Tilting his head, he was immediately crouching down and peeking through the bars at some of the smaller, yellow birds. A curious hand drifted closer to one of the smaller ones- big mistake.

Apparently the young bird was Asch in bird form in a bad mood, because it was pecking at his fingers, "Wha-?! Hey!"

With that, his moogle helpfully explained that, sometimes, the younger chocobos didn't like strangers. Luke sighed, but quietly moved that information to the back of his mind for later. Glancing down at his apparently-permanent companion, the replica casually began asking questions about the chocobos. Folding his arms over his chest, he was idly tapping the flute on his shoulder, listening quietly to each answer the furry creature was able to offer. Well, he couldn't offer much information, but...it was enough. Smiling lightly, he thanked the small creature.

Also, for the first time, since his arrival, he was genuinely grateful for his new abilities. It was thanks to the speed and reflexes that he was able to easily avoid that powerful beak. After giving a frown at that thought, he sighed and stood. Yeah, suddenly he was...not so sure how eager he was to ride one of those things...

~*~

Which increased after finding out he'd have to actually catch one, himself. Standing on the outskirts of the farm, he rested a hand on his hip staring out into the open field. After receiving the bait and explanation, he'd been sent on his way. Head tilting to the side, the redhead's expression made it clear there was a bit of excitement regarding the challenge. After a brief moment of thinking on it, there was something cool about the idea of catching his own mode of transportation.

[[OOC: Feel free to have someone approach during any point!]]

9/ The world is subject to unrelenting pain and suffering…
He wasn't sold, yet, on the whole...blitzball thing. While it was cool to watch, he didn't feel exceptionally compelled to join in on playing. What he did enjoy, however, was that game called Triple Triad. That game had proven to be, on some level, addictive...

Not to mention, he'd managed to become fairly decent at it. With practice, he'd managed to form a pretty awesome deck. Grinning lightly, he tucked his cards back into his pocket and thanked the person for a fun game. He wasn't one to brag; but, on the same note, he certainly did not mind winning.

Deciding to take a break from his...break, Luke realized he was actually pretty hungry. Time to go find something to eat!

So far, Selphie hadn't had much luck in finding any familiar faces but her moogle, Libra had kept her company so she didn't feel very lonely. The duo had spent the day wandering the city, getting a lay of the land when she spotted a familiar game and someone with skill at the came that could rival the members of Card Club. The perky brunette watched him play a couple rounds before plucking one of the cards off the table and smiling fondly.

"Huh. I was never very good at Triple Triad," she admitted conversationally. "Maybe because the kids I tried to play with all cheated? Oh well! What's done is done, right?"

She offered the card to him with a cheerful smile before sitting down across from him. "There's different sets of rules for Triple Triad so be careful."

[personal profile] headfons 2014-06-29 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
That was Luke's case with the companion he'd only recently given the name of Ion. While he had pretty much expected not to find any of his friends, there, a part of him had still hoped. Luke adjusted rather quickly, in spite of the new world being absolutely nothing like the first ones he'd found himself in. There was still the matter of him being somewhat...desensitized, in comparison to those that were coming from their home worlds. The current one made world four in his list of 'worlds lived on'.

He took the card with two fingers, returning the smile. Tilting his head to the side, ever-so-slightly, his expression turned curious as he thought on her words. Oh, yeah, he did learn about there being different rules from that one guy...but that wasn't what he was curious about.

"You sound like you've had years of experience with it," he started, "Is...this a thing you had back on your world?"

"There's a club dedicated to Triple Triad at Balamb Garden," Selphie explained cheerfully. "But I was never a part of it. Triple Triad really isn't the game for me. I'll take a good hand of War any day!"

She looked at Luke's Moogle, studying it for a few moments with her head cocked in the opposite direction of his. He didn't seem overly alarmed by the notion of waking up in a new world without a friendly face in the world to greet you with the exception of their new partners. Selphie didn't really mind arriving in Aqures Ixen after she'd collected herself. To her, it was more of a different adventure mixed with the lingering anxiety that there were still many things she needed to do back home.

"There's other groups, sports teams and clubs to be a member of at Garden. Maybe you'd like it there," she said before extending her left hand toward Luke's Moogle. "Looks like these little guys are gonna be sticking with us. Moogles are creatures that only exist in books on my world so I never thought I'd get meet one in person."

Balamb Garden...

Hand of...War?

...His expression made it clear each of those words and terms had him lost. Curious as well- but, still lost, nonetheless. After listening to her, quietly, he watched her study Ion. A faint smile rested on his own lips as he glanced over at her Moogle. The replica, indeed, wasn't overly alarmed. He wasn't especially happy to be there, though. For starters, he didn't even have the same abilities, anymore; he was starting from scratch. While the fact that he suddenly knew how to move and do things that he hadn't before, there was still the fact that things were out of his hands, yet again.

Of course, in spite of the unhappiness he held, he was still more than willing to do what he had to. Using the aspect of moving forward, he clung firmly to that...distraction. After she was finished talking, he chuckled- a hint of underlying negativity within it, "Who knows. At this rate, I might get to visit that place."

He watched Ion shyly look at the stranger's hand, a moment. After a brief pause, he muttered a soft 'k-kupo' and fluttered closer to Luke. The redhead gave a soft, apologetic laugh, "Sorry about that. Ion's shy," he said before giving an exasperated sigh while holding a blink, "Nothing, at all, like the
person I named him after."

Then, after a short pause, "I'd...never actually heard of them, before arriving here. The last world I was in had Pokemon, but that was about it."

If he still had access to his sand abilities… the large bird would likely be easier to capture.

Gaara was in the midst of observing other people trying to catch them, when Luke suddenly began to approach him. Looking up, he eyed the bag in his possession – the bait, he presumed – and then glanced back at the small creature following him. Moogles, they were called: a type of mammalian species, capable of speech. In all honesty, they resembled a stuffed animal of sorts.

After setting down his staff against the sturdy trunk of the nearby tree, Gaara made a slight gesture at the bag. His white robes rippled with the wave of the breeze as he walked forward. “Have you received the instructions?”

[personal profile] headfons 2014-06-29 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
After somewhat loosely tying the small bag to his waist, he folded his arms over his chest and looked out to the field. Giving Gaara a light grin, he nodded. As he started to explain, he was briefly distracted by his moogle giving Gaara's a happy wave and greeting.

"Ah...yeah," he started, before chuckling softly, "They made it sound...easy, but I can't help but doubt it'll go that smoothly."

They were wild birds, after all. Luke was more comfortable in preparing himself for anything. On top of that, the information was coming from people native to the world. They were used to dealing with chocobos, so maybe it was just easy for them, "Anyway, we're apparently supposed to offer the bait as a distraction while we take out any nearby enemies. Once the enemies are gone, the chocobo will supposedly be willing to just...let us on."

His own moogle fluttered over to Luke’s with a happy giggle, grasping a hold of his paws with hers. Gaara eyed their interaction with open curiosity, wondering once again, if this was customary behavior for moogles. Karura didn’t act like this with any of the other moogles. She was friendly, yes, but… her actions were different.

“Perhaps it was their intention to make the instructions sound simple, easy to follow,” he offered in justification, “However, through observation of attempts from other people… it would be foolish to underestimate the chocobos’ capabilities.”

Gaara nodded with understanding, then returned his gaze to the field. “I will distract it, while you are engaged in combat.” His offensive capabilities were limited, in this class. He would, of course, always provide Luke with support, or heal him if he was dealt wounds by the monsters. “Are there any other strategies you would like to employ?”

[personal profile] headfons 2014-06-29 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Luke's moogle happily took Karura's paws. Luke had to wonder why they were acting as though they hadn't just seen one another...Their interaction was kind of cute- not that Luke would ever openly say something like that. The thing was, though...Ion wasn't normally friendly. He was usually shy, and a bit timid. Only with Gaara's moogle did Ion ever come out of that shell.

"Y-yeah, those birds can be kind of...aggressive," he said, hoping Gaara wouldn't ask how he knew that, "Maybe you're right, though. Maybe they just wanted to make it easy for me to understand..."

As he following the other redhead's gaze, Luke listened, quietly. Luke agreed with the plan. With a grin, he untied the bag from his waist and handed it to Gaara, "Alright. So, you'll handle the bait, while I take care of the monsters?"

Aggressive? Gaara quirked a brow at his ally, then retrieved his staff and walked over to him. “Are you injured?”

He knew Luke better than to make that type of observation without firsthand experience. If he needed healing, then it would be more efficient to have it done, prior to their attempt at capturing a chocobo. It was quite a change, to focus heavily on recovery feats rather than offensive tactics.

Taking a hold of the bag, he nodded, and then commanded, “Karura. Come.”

His moogle released Ion with a soft squeak, “Kupo!”

They began wandering the field, in search of random monsters.

[personal profile] headfons 2014-07-05 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
The replica's brow quirked, and then he was sheepishly laughing as he shook his head, "Nah, I managed to move away, in time."

Again, he silently thanked his suddenly...impressive speed and agility. While he wasn't overly confident or cocky, he was definitely thankful. It was definitely a surprise to wake up with abilities more similar to...Guy's. When he'd first discovered it, he'd only been able to laugh it off. There was no point being upset over it- he'd just have to learn to make do.

Of course that was only one of his changes. There was also his ability to cast spells and whatnot- something that required the help of Ion. While he liked that ability for the healing and magic, he preferred the speed, agility, and ability to steal items (of course, it really sucked that his hit was kind of...weak). Speaking of, he couldn't help but think it'd come in handy with capturing a giant bird...

Following Gaara and Karura, Luke folded his arms behind his head and glanced downward at Ion. Giving him a light smile, he continued to follow behind Gaara by a couple of paces, eyes lifting to begin scanning the area for monsters. Minutes later--

"There..."

He muttered it just loud enough for the others to hear. Drawing his short sword, he glanced to Gaara, and then back at the two Buers and yellow Chocobo. The Buers had the ability to confuse their targets, but Luke already planned to do what he could to dodge their attacks. They were incredibly weak enemies, so Luke wasn't too worried. While his attacks weren't exactly strong, the Buers only had that one attack (and Gaara could cast Esuna, in the event that Luke wasn't able to dodge in time!)...

Alright...time to catch a chocobo!

As usual, their moogles stood back whenever they encountered monsters. Gaara moved his staff to the front of his chest, and then watched his companion closely. One of the monsters drew close to him, and his body tensed in anticipation of an attack. He wasn’t able to defend very effectively with the staff, but Luke intervened and killed the monster before it could strike. Slanting him a slight nod, Gaara quickly cast a curing spell to heal his wounds.

In preparation for the remaining monsters, he closed his eyes for a brief moment and muttered softly, “Protect…”

The confusion affliction would be dangerous, if Luke was left to fend on his own. Gaara stayed out of range intentionally, to provide support as best he could. The bloodlust in him didn’t run as rampantly, with Shukaku no longer being a strong influence in his mind. Regardless, he still felt the desire to fight; it was in his nature, despite his current class. He would simply need to invent some method of offensive capabilities, with the tools he had been given.

When the battle ended, he restored the physical status of both himself and Luke. There was a chocobo, wandering near their location… Gaara set his staff down and approached slowly, carrying the bag of bait along. He stilled when the large bird turned its head toward him, and waited until it looked away before proceeding again. Using the bait, he coaxed the chocobo to let its guard down, then he lifted a hand to tentatively pat it on the head. The yellow feathers were long and soft, bristling through his fingers with each gentle sweep.

“Do you have experience with riding an animal?” Gaara sent back in inquiry, while continuing to stroke the bird. He wouldn’t know the first thing about it himself, never having ridden anything aside from his sand.

[personal profile] headfons 2014-07-06 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
The second that monster even began to approach Gaara, Luke was moving in that direction. Being in the class with the fastest speed, it didn't even require Luke to move as quickly as he could have. With ease, he was attacking the flying creature from behind, and then whipping around to place himself between the Buer and Gaara. After landing another attack, he watched the monster drop to the ground. It was almost done for; Luke used that moment to steal an item from it, before landing a final blow.

Unfortunately, it seemed another pair of monsters were wandering up- two Geezards, as he'd heard them called, before. Luke couldn't suppress the light smirk; he'd fought plenty of those in the past, and that particular monster was a...joke. Either way, he was saving them for last. It didn't take too long to defeat the other Buer (he attempted to steal from it, but failed- he decided not to waste time, due to the risk of Gaara being attacked during his attempt), before moving onto the incredibly weak creatures. Even though the first managed to land a couple of attacks on him, he was able to withstand it while defeating the second.

Finally...moving onto the last Geezard, Luke defeated it with ease- and, hey, he even managed another potion!

Grinning with relief at the battle having gone smoothly, he wiped his forehead with the back of his arm. Then, after returning his sword to its sheath, he folded his arms over his chest. He quietly watched his companion with a light smile, as he managed to catch the giant bird. Well, it looked to be a job well done...

Only after the bird was allowing Gaara to pet it, did Luke pick Gaara's staff up and approach the pair...slowly. He made sure to remain calm as he reached a hand up to scratch the chocobo on the side of its neck; he chuckled as it made a noise to express liking that. Well, it was nice to see that one wasn't going to attack. To Gaara's question, Luke paused, appearing to think. Then, without explanation, he handed Gaara his staff. Quietly, he walked around to the opposite side of the animal, gesturing for Ion to follow him. The moogle gave a "kupo!" and fluttered over to him.

Luke patted the side of the bird as warning- the only warning. With an agile leap, he was suddenly seated on the chocobo. He was only going from what he'd seen other people doing; changing classes hadn't taken away his tendency to just...do things. After he wasn't violently thrown off, he couldn't help but grin in relief. Something about being atop the somewhat...gently animal was exciting. The chocobo seemed almost eager to be on its way, too. The second, Luke had hopped on, it'd make a sound that seemed happy, with one leg lifting in anticipation. Well, Luke could take a hint.

Smiling down at Gaara, he let out a soft laugh, "No, but," he reached out a hand, the other firmly gripping those thick feathers, "we can figure it out, together, right?"

“......”

Of course, Luke was going to act impulsively, as expected. Gaara quirked a brow in his direction, but said nothing to indicate his inner thoughts. It was likely that Luke would already know his stance, given the amount of interaction they had shared, thus far. He watched with avid interest, as Luke tamed the animal easily, using its feathers as leverage and support. Wouldn’t it be more prudent to ride them with the proper equipment, such as a saddle and harness?

“Kupo!” His moogle squeaked just then; she seemed fascinated by the chocobo, from the way she was flitting around it. She flapped her small wings and flew up to settle down onto the rear end of the large creature, right next to Ion.

“…Mmm.” Hesitation creased his brows briefly, and then Gaara accepted the invitation, climbing atop the chocobo with help from his comrade.

Sitting behind Luke, he had to adjust his robes to part his legs enough to place them on both sides of the chocobo. Keeping a tight grip on his staff, he slung his other arm around Luke’s waist, for security purposes. Had they not been given enough time and circumstances to become more familiar with each other, contact-wise, he wouldn’t have held onto Luke in this manner. On a baser level, he did recognize the necessity of it, lest he risk falling off the chocobo in the midst of transportation.

“Begin slowly,” he cautioned Luke in a steady tone.
