1/ Welcome to the world of Crystallis!
You have seen reality shatter and collapse around you, in the depths of the void you found a Crystal and now you are in the city of Aqures Ixen, surrounded by Moogles and people as lost and confused as you are. On the bright side, everyone thinks you're a hero! On the downside, they expect you to save the world. Maybe their expectations are a bit too much. Thankfully, you're not abandoned to your fate as a Moogle explains to you everything you need to know. Maybe it's time to get to know your companions in misfortune.

2/ Do you like your new life?
No? Well, either way, you better get used to it, to your new powers, to your new house, to the ball of fur that follows your every steps—Who knows, maybe you'll even make some friends here. Besides, even if everyone expects you to save the world, fighting isn't the only way to do so. Maybe you could open a shop to help and properly equip your friends who are actually eager to fight. Maybe you could try and gather people who think diplomacy can stop war, you could even start your own researches on the Crystals— Or you could make sure your house is the prettiest in all of Aqures Ixen. Anything is possible.

3/ Ukulele de Chocobo
Upon arrival, your Moogle gave you a map of Crystallis. This world may be a bit big for you to explore, so why not go to the Chocobo Farm and ask for a Chocobo? These big birds can't fly, but they're much more efficient than horses when it comes to travelling. Maybe it's your first time riding a Chocobo; it might be a good idea to have someone with you in case something goes wrong. Or maybe the old man at the farm didn't have any Chocobos left and gave you some Chocobo-Bait© so you can go and capture your own.

4/ A thing called Mognet
Hopefully you weren't used to Internet and cellphones back home. Otherwise, you might be a tiny bit confused when your Moogle returns to you with a stack of letters. Or maybe someone else's Moogle is coming to you with a voice message it learnt by heart and is now going to recite to you with a lot of Kupo. That's how the "network" works here.

5/ I believe I can fly~
You are on an Airship! Airships regularly depart from Aqures Ixen and stop by most major cities in the world, so they're the perfect means of transportation for you to go and explore this world. You can go anywhere in a matter of hours — One can only hope you don’t have motion sickness.

6/ Exploration
Enough expository banter. Now is the time to explore. Maybe rather than spending most of your time in Aqures Ixen, you'd rather spend it living in Balicea, or betting on Chocobo Races in Trano Golsaucia. Or maybe you'd rather go and explore some ancient ruins that may hold some precious information. With Airships and Chocobos at your disposal, you can go nearly anywhere that isn't under imperial control; unless you have a death wish of course.

7/ Random Encounter
You were minding your own business walking around, and suddenly monsters attacked you! Time to put to use the skills you've learned with your Jobs! Alternatively, maybe this encounter isn't random at all, and you have been sent on a mission to kick some imperial asses in the war confronting the Heran Empire and the Republic of Esdham. Good luck!

8/ Getting Jobs is hard
It all started when you asked Jessie to give you a new Job. What could and should have been a formality, quickly turned into a trial. All you wanted was a Job, and here you are in the wild, hunting for a Malboro Vine. Or maybe you are in some ancient and decrepit ruins looking for an artifact. Or yet again, maybe she simply asked you to assist her in her researches on the Crystals. Getting new Jobs is not easy. Consider yourself happy though, at least you don't have to do that alone.

9/ The world is subject to unrelenting pain and suffering…
This is why you should play a game. After all, there are things a lot more important than saving the world: Blitzball is one of them. Triple Triad is another. Why don't you take a break and do something different for once; anyone wanting to play Blitzball is given a special potion allowing them to breath underwater, whereas someone who wants to play Triple Triad should have no difficulties finding veterans more than happy to get rid of their low level cards.

10/ Wild Card
Don't like the options offered here? Go crazy and choose what you want to do in this world!

Cloud pulled out his journal. After a few early troubles keeping track of different quests, he had started writing down the information when he got it. It wasn't like he was able to call out a big floating red arrow to show him which way to go.

"Yeah, this is the place. According to the explorers back in town, there's an art gallery in this place. The Paintbrush of Souls may be in there somewhere."

The only problems were the creatures lurking inside. Monkeys, giant bees and coeurls were bad enough. But it was the stories of the little green creatures brandishing knives and lanterns that everyone seemed most scared to tell.

As Cloud checked over his journal, Sephiroth finally crossed the short distance to also peer down the steps into the front of the temple that quite obviously expanded beneath their feet.

The inky blackness was absolute past the first five or six steps and he knew, from experience most of all, that they were only afforded that much visibility inside due to the sun being behind them. As it got later in the day that visibility would decrease and he wasn't so sure he wanted to learn of all the nocturnal creatures of the forest they had found themselves in - just yet.

"Did you ever encounter a Tonberry before, Cloud?"

It looked like their path through the temple was going to be a bit odd. They'd have to go through some passages, and even leave the temple briefly to head along a higher terrace, but the notes he was given should be able to guide him along.

"If we follow the right wall, we should be okay for the first part." He murmured to himself as he put the journal away. He unslung his black mage staff as he rejoined Sephiroth, twisting it nervously in his hands. He missed his rifle.

"N-no sir. I haven't. I've heard a lot of things though."

There was no reason in particular not to believe the information that Jessie had given to Cloud for this mission, but it's not as if Sephiroth had been there when she had given the details to him either. Not to fault Cloud's keenness in expanding his skill set -even Sephiroth had to start to consider to do the same as well- but how likely could it be that he might have missed something? Not to mention, the accuracy of Jessie's details in the first place?

There was a lot to consider, for sure. But they would only waste time picking apart Cloud's notes.

"Back home, they are quite rare as far as monsters go." Even Sephiroth himself had only encountered them a handful of times in the wild, more often than not facing them in the company training room back at Shinra HQ. "But they do have a deathblow ability that's able to take you out in one stab."

He watched as Cloud wrung the staff in his hands. At the very least Sephiroth appreciated how different it must feel. A wooden staff was hardly a weapon when compared to the full-metal variants that they were all used to.

"I'm sure it's going to take some getting used to. We'll take this slowly."

Cloud had faith in the information he was given. The thing was that there was a world of difference between information and experience, especially when it came to the more vicious monsters that seemed to populate both this world and the one they had come from.

"Sounds like a plan, sir. They use knives correct? Then I guess we should try taking them out from far away. Another adventurer told me to be careful and to try to kill as few as possible though. She said that they try to get revenge for each other."

The directions lead the two along. The early passages take them past some local fauna, monsters of the beast and bug variety. A few tonberries scurried about, they kept their distance, simply watching for the time being. It wasn't until they were in the hall that would lead them back outside that the green creatures began to cluster, blocking off the path behind the duo.

"Then that will be a difference to look out for." He commented smoothly as he took the lead down into the foreboding temple, Sephiroth's Masamune was turned and twisted up along the back of an arm so that it wouldn't get in the way. He preferred his Warrior and Dragoon job-set, it better reflected the style that he was used to fighting with back within Shinra. There were still a few kinks, and he missed the awesome power behind it that he'd had but- well they all had to adjust.

Eventually, after much picking about in the dark it ended up that they'd been turned around back to the initial stairwell. As annoyed with Cloud's clearly flawed directions he was, Sephiroth raised an eyebrow at the strange behavior of the tonberries blocking the door. He slipped into a preparatory battle stance, yet did not move just yet.

"Are you sure this is the right way?"

Cloud wasn't sure. There was something wrong with his notes. They were describing rooms and turns that he didn't remember at all. He pulled his journal out again, flipping through it until he found the page and the map...and found something horrifying.

Two of the pages had stuck together!

Keeping an eye on the tonberries he pulled them apart to find the real information he needed. Quickly scanning the walls, he was relieved to find they weren't actually back where they entered, but a similar looking exit. "We're almost there! Back this way!"

He gestured back down the hall they came, and a door beyond a fork that they hadn't taken. They were nearly there...they might survive this after all.

The cluster of tonberries didn't move, just as Sephiroth himself didn't move, a frozen statue of tension in the silence that followed his question to Cloud. Ready to have to defend them both should the small green mole-like creatures decide to be more directly hostile.

Cloud's extended pause, the rustling of the pages of his notebook did more for rising Sephiroth's hackles than the threat of an impending fight hanging in the close air of the hall. He dared to peer back over an armored shoulder at him, a flick of a questioning expression laced with a sting of annoyance crossed the top of his brow. This was what he got for adventuring with an amateur, somethings never changed.

Then, finally Cloud seemed to redeem himself somewhat, and just in time as the first couple of tonberry proceeded to take their first steps towards the pair of them. Keeping a fast grip around Masamune's hilt, Sephiroth retreated cautiously as Cloud led them back towards the fork that they hadn't taken before.

"You'd better be right about this-" He muttered as they slipped through the door. The green little men were still around half the way towards them across the first hall by the time they got there. Already Sephiroth was concerned with their escape route but- they needed to find that paintbrush first.
