— Most importantly, have fun!

1/ Welcome to the world of Crystallis!
You have seen reality shatter and collapse around you, in the depths of the void you found a Crystal and now you are in the city of Aqures Ixen, surrounded by Moogles and people as lost and confused as you are. On the bright side, everyone thinks you're a hero! On the downside, they expect you to save the world. Maybe their expectations are a bit too much. Thankfully, you're not abandoned to your fate as a Moogle explains to you everything you need to know. Maybe it's time to get to know your companions in misfortune. Besides, it seems this has occurred past month already-- Maybe some people who have been here for longer than you may help.

2/ Do you like your new life?
No? Well, either way, you better get used to it, to your new powers, to your new house, to the ball of fur that follows your every steps—Who knows, maybe you'll even make some friends here. Besides, even if everyone expects you to save the world, fighting isn't the only way to do so. Maybe you could open a shop to help and properly equip your friends who are actually eager to fight. Maybe you could try and gather people who think diplomacy can stop war, you could even start your own researches on the Crystals— Or you could make sure your house is the prettiest in all of Aqures Ixen. Anything is possible.

3/ Neighborhood woes
The government of Aqures Ixen is very sorry, but it seems there are too many of you Heroes of Light. Hence why there is no free houses left in district dedicated to housing you. This may also be why you're not alone in the house that was given to you. Hopefully you're not living with a mad villain plotting to take over the world late at night, and hopefully your neighbor isn't a singer who doesn't know how to sing. On the bright side, you may have someone very cool living with you and an artist next door! It's just not likely.

4/ Crystallis de Chocobo
Upon arrival, your Moogle gave you a map of Crystallis. This world may be a bit big for you to explore, so why not go to the Chocobo Farm and ask for a Chocobo? These big birds can't fly, but they're much more efficient than horses when it comes to travelling. Maybe it's your first time riding a Chocobo; it might be a good idea to have someone with you in case something goes wrong. Or maybe the old man at the farm didn't have any Chocobos left and gave you some Chocobo Lure© so you can go and capture your own. You can find details on Chocobo Capture here.

5/ A thing called Mognet
Hopefully you weren't used to Internet and cellphones back home. Otherwise, you might be a tiny bit confused when your Moogle returns to you with a stack of letters. Or maybe someone else's Moogle is coming to you with a voice message it learnt by heart and is now going to recite to you with a lot of Kupo. That's how the "network" works here.

6/ A thing called Strike
In spite of how old-fashioned it is, Mognet is very useful and odds are that you may have become dependent on it. Hopefully not, because one local tradition seems to be Mognet Strikes. Nobody knows any more whether the Moogles have legitimate reasons to go on strike or if they are just lazy. But today, Mognet is down, and to get information you have no choice but going to the public board in the third district or in taverns.

7/ I believe I can fly~
You are on an Airship! Airships regularly depart from Aqures Ixen and stop by most major cities in the world, so they're the perfect means of transportation for you to go and explore this world. You can go anywhere in a matter of hours — One can only hope you don’t have motion sickness.

8/ Exploration
Enough expository banter. Now is the time to explore. Maybe rather than spending most of your time in Aqures Ixen, you'd rather spend it living in Balicea, or betting on Chocobo Races in Trano Golsaucia. Or maybe you'd rather go and explore some ancient ruins that may hold some precious information. With Airships and Chocobos at your disposal, you can go nearly anywhere that isn't under imperial control; unless you have a death wish of course.

9/ Random Encounter
You were minding your own business walking around, and suddenly monsters attacked you! Time to put to use the skills you've learned with your Jobs! Alternatively, maybe this encounter isn't random at all, and you have been sent on a mission to kick some imperial asses in the war confronting the Heran Empire and the Republic of Esdham. Good luck!

10/ Getting Jobs is hard
It all started when you asked Jessie to give you a new Job. What could and should have been a formality, quickly turned into a trial. All you wanted was a Job, and here you are in the wild, hunting for a Malboro Vine. Or maybe you are in some ancient and decrepit ruins looking for an artifact. Or yet again, maybe she simply asked you to assist her in her researches on the Crystals. Getting new Jobs is not easy. Consider yourself happy though, at least you don't have to do that alone.

11/ The world is subject to unrelenting pain and suffering…
This is why you should play a game. After all, there are things a lot more important than saving the world: Blitzball is one of them. Triple Triad is another. Why don't you take a break and do something different for once; anyone wanting to play Blitzball is given a special potion allowing them to breath underwater, whereas someone who wants to play Triple Triad should have no difficulties finding veterans more than happy to get rid of their low level cards.

12/ Events of the Past
Missed an event you would have liked to participate in? The Test Drive Meme is the perfect place to play this event without being restricted by the game's chronology! Maybe you would have liked to capture a Chocobo during Crystalis de Chocobo, maybe you would have liked to be lost and attacked from all sides in the creepy Magitek Research Facility, or maybe you'd like to celebrate the Christmas of Crystallis. Yet again, maybe you would have liked to regain your true power and subsequently be on your path to death, as in The Night of the Thirteen Moogles. Or how about participating in Christmas at Crystallis or fighting in a war for the warriors among you?

13/ Wild Card
Don't like the options offered here? Go crazy and choose what you want to do in this world!

Greg saluted and then picked up the frog to make him salute as well. "Yes, sir!" He walked forward like a robot with one arm and one leg reaching forward. It was a slow sort of silly walk but he was taking it very seriously.

He paused and looked down. "I found a quarter." He glanced a the piece of gil curiously. "Wait a minute.. this isn't a quarter."

Gregory tossed it away and then walked into the tavern.

"I'm hungry."

He walked in with his frog setting his frog on a chair to an empty table. "You. Wait. Here. I'm go get food."

"Come on! If you go be in any climate what would it be? I bet I can find a town you like too." She grinned up at the tall hero.

Yuffie could easily talk enough for the both of them but she knew Vincent well enough to know that if she asked a question there was a 75% chance he might answer it. As long as it wasn't a really stupid question.

The small rabbit looks up, a momentary glean of cheer in his eyes that gives way to a deep, eternal sadness.

"Oh, no. I'm sure it's not for me. Thanks for trying to cheer me up."

Luckily for Vincent, Sephiroth had much of a similar attitude where it came to otherwise awkward social situations. He was very much a man who wouldn't stick around anywhere for idle chatter and quite often made a point to come up with a reason to step away where possible. If he hadn't felt obligated to share information with an apparent newcomer to Crystallis, he'd likely have already walked off.

Still, Vincent's explanation made sense and he nodded politely. A slight weight of tension lifted; he had no other reason to think that this man wasn't from a different World to him. That concern dispelled, Sephiroth met Vincent's eye contact directly- only to then have his slitted pupils contract as that initial concern was verified in the next comment. He was the one to blink and to look away, out over in the direction where the goblins had retreated to.

Despite how his sharp logical mind quickly connected the dots into what Vincent could have meant by that comment; in that indeed he did know the man from his future that dared to still carry his name, Sephiroth forced the knot of dread within him to calm down and slowly tilted his silvered head back to meet with the eye contact once more.

"Can't say that I've heard of you." The past affairs of the Turks were hardly SOLDIER jurisdiction. Even if he had been nosy when picking around in Shinra's archives, if Vincent's name were mentioned anywhere it just wasn't relevant to him. "I guess that makes sense, at least."

Barkeep followed, keeping watch over the boy, then eyeing the strange coin he found. He stopped, considered whether he should just leave it for someone else, then picked it up and put it in his robe. Until he found a legitimate job, he was going to need anything he found.

He opened the door for Greg to enter. The tavern was only half-full, as the two of them already missed the lunch hour, but the noise level showed that this place was pretty popular no matter the time of day. A good place to work, Barkeep thought, if they were actually looking for employees.

"Now, now," he took hold of Greg's shoulder, "we're all orderin' together. That frog of yours might run off."

It was an animal, after all, and frogs weren't the type to obey commands.

Rysher looks at the envelope, then back to Mesousua.

"Um, 'Mee-soo-sah'? That's you, right?" The name is a bit foreign to him, but Rysher tries his best.

"It's less me trying to cheer you up and me trying to do my job. But hey, be happy! Someone sent you a letter!" Rysher held it out to him again.

"What! Not Dr. Cucumber. He's a good Doctor." Greg smiled though he stopped looking up at the Barkeep.

"Mashed potatoes!" He threw his hands in the air with an energetic smile before his stomach began to grumble again. He then proceeded to lay on the floor gripping his tummy. "So hungry."

A young man who sat at a nearby table was in agreement. At first, he physically winced at the food he ordered when it was brought to him, as it was cold and smelled terrible. It didn't really matter, since a few moments later a stray thrown bottle headed his way and hit the plate, knocking it to the floor. Rysher jumped back from it with a surprises squeak.

"You're not even kidding! What's with the restaurants in this city? Some of them are just... barbaric!"

"You just said its name was George Washington earlier," he replies, then pulls Greg back again on his feet. "You stay here while I order. Don't go wanderin' around 'til I get back."

He made his way through the tables of customers until he reached the counter, staffed by a Hypello. Its appearance didn't bother him at all, who was used to seeing a certain blue humanoid creature in his saloon.

"What woulds you likesh to order, Shir?" the attendant asked.

"Uh, well." That voice he certainly didn't expect. "A bowl of mashed potatoes and gravy for the kid," he pointed to Greg, who thankfully was sitting down at that time, "And add some biscuits to that, too. I'll have the stew special." That option looked cheap yet filling.

The Hypello leaned over to get a better look at Greg and spotted the Moogle. "Ish dat boy a Hero of Light?"

"...Yes? Is that a problem?"

"Oh, no, no! Heroesh of Light get dishcounts for their firsht meal here."

Mordecai now wished he hadn't ordered Felton to stay home.

"That'll be nice, ma'am."

"Ah!" The older man also jumped out of his seat at the sound of breaking glass. "I don't believe! Why, in my place, the thought of this sort of behavior would not be tolerated!"

With a huff, he picked up his plate and walked down the counter away from the broken bottle. It was safer, yes, but at this angle, he could watch what was going on in the tavern.

"Can't even eat this sorry excuse of a meal in peace. Sir," he addressed the man standing behind the counter, who had ignored Rysher's situation. "Get that gent a new plate of somethin' decent. You ought to look out for your customers better."

"W-what?"

The rabbit looks ecstatic as he reached out to take the letter from Rysher, pulling it closer to himself. Alas, it was not meant to be, as the letter slips lower and lower in the rabbit's thumbless hands, landing on the ground with little fanfare.

Mesousa looks mortified. His knees give out and he drops to the ground, hanging his head.

"Nooooo. Why? It wasn't meant to be. Rabbits can't open letters."

Gregory moved to a seat and started talking to the frog as if it would respond to him. His feet lightly kicked the air as he leaned back and forth. There was something to say about boredom except that Greg refused to be bored.

"You know Dr. Cucumber. I think Wirt would like this place. Maybe we can find a way to get home here! Then I can show Wirt! He'd like that."

A pause.

"I wonder if they have hotdogs here or schools. I already go to school at home so I wouldn't need to here." His gaze moved over to his moogle who was sitting next to him with his head in his paws.

"Cheer up there pal! Things are never as bad as they seem!"

[Well, at least the boy wasn't going to give her too much trouble about helping. Which was a relief.]

....You should probably have a plan just in case he isn't around. Or at least an idea...

[She's only somewhat chiding, considering the boy's age. Elena can't help but give a little amused noise as she follows closely.

And then stops at the front of the candy store with a blank, almost unamused expression.]

I...thought you said we were looking for your brother...

"If you were more from my time, you wouldn't help but to find out about me," Genesis said, shrugging as if it was natural to assume so. It was. After all, if it wasn't for his genes, the Tsviets would not have gotten as far as they did.

Genesis thought for a moment about withholding the information but then sighed. It really wouldn't matter in the end, now would it? It was not like Vincent would remember once he went back to the Planet.

"Hojo used my cells and Lucrecia's studies to create a group of SOLDIERs he called Deepground. They and you came to blows, so his notes on me would have been among his notes on them."

[Greg stiffens becoming more serious.]

You're right.

[Except that he couldn't help but be hungry. He doesn't remember the last time he ate. He walks a few steps forward idly chattering to Elena.]

That's right! It takes time to come up with a good plan. Hey! Did you know that elbow macaroni isn't made of elbows!

Vincent watched the other carefully, mostly to be sure that things stayed on a calm path. Taking his time as he chose his words. "I have no quarrel, and you wouldn't have heard of me likely." Sad, but true--in the end, Lucretia had chosen as she would, and Vincent was hardly a footnote. Even if he'd been a test subject himself, and victim to Hojo's twistedness.

"I was with the Department of Administrative Research, but...it got complicated." A sigh, and a breath in. "This is a different world." Breaking the gaze, still relaxed, and his own eyes shifted to his left hand. Covered by the fitted-gauntlet-glove, hiding numerous scars. Odd that they'd stayed, while Vincent was apparently human here on Crystallis. Then again, odder still--given Hojo's mind--that he hadn't just taken or replaced the arm fully, rather than cut and slice repeatedly into it.

"It'd be unforgivable to quarrel, especially after your timely arrival." Thanking him, but also subtly hoping to extend that peace. Sephiroth--for all the threat he'd represented on Gaia, had never been Vincent's primary target right way anyways. The overwhelming threat yes, but nothing more.

"Joy." Came the extremely deadpan reply, Vincent hardly excited by the prospect of finding out what was to come. More sins to add to his own, in not stopping Hojo when he'd had a chance. More trouble, from the whole damn affair and experiments.

"But you and I have no quarrel, yes?" Because that was the next important thing to establish. Not that it would make terribly much of a difference in this world.

It seemed more like the other was 'coming with' Vincent, as he'd already turned and was headed that way. It didn't matter much though, not to the gunslinger. Truthfully, he was more annoyed by his lack of skill when he KNEW he was more skilled, and having to relearn it all.

A goblin pack would normally not be trouble for him.

No need to BE sorry. :D

[personal profile] bloodypast 2015-04-28 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Truthfully, after his first few warning shots, Vincent was and had been taking more careful aim. Annoyed at not being nearly as skilled as he was used to, but still connecting with shoulders and legs among the goblin pack. Staying out of their range had been more troublesome, given the numbers.

His eyes never wavered from where they watched the group, even as he heard the shout of warning. A pivot and step to the side, more towards the left as he nodded. Careful aim, and the crack of a gun-shot, along with a squealed yell, and one goblin picked off from the scattered grouping now.

Vincent was also more than contented to let Yuffie do most of the talking. He tuned out most of the irrelevant stuff, responding with non-committal noises to things he didn't find interesting. Habit now, at least with her, and he'd learned it early with others who seemed to need to fill every silent space with chatter.

Tilting his head to the side, Vincent slanted his gaze in her direction. "Oh? What kind of town do you think I'd like then?" Personal curiosity, admittedly. Not really important, but vaguely amused to see what Yuffie thought he would enjoy.

Silence is taken as an acknowledgment, a sign of intense focus on the situation at hand. A good sign. Perhaps even hinting at familiarity. She'd think on that feeling later, when the goblins were taken care of.

The sound of gunfire was hardly foreign to Elena, which meant that she could maintain her own internal rhythm. With the gunner on the slightly larger of the two groups, she could turn her attention to the trio she had assigned herself. A deep, cleansing breath later and she's on the offensive, landing blow after blow until the first is KOed and the remaining two look unsure about their new opponent.

"I really don't know WHAT you like." She stopped walking for a moment and then quickly moved to catch up again. He wasn't going to slow down for her, at least he never had in the past. Her palms rubbed against her shorts before putting her arms behind her head. What sort of places would Vincent like?

Yuffie was silent for a long while just thinking about places that he might like best. She wasn't the type to spend a lot of time thinking or not talking so it might pull a few alarms from Vincent but Yuffie was to occupied with her thoughts to notice much else.

Aside from the slight shock betrayed just before Sephiroth had first looked away, in general the exchange between the two men remained a calm neutral at best, itchy suspicion at worst. Most of that was down to the fact that Sephiroth did no need yet more people from his Home World arriving with memories of acts he had yet to actually commit. It was hard enough dealing with his own churning, overactive ponderings without having his nose rubbed in it at every turn.

"I have no quarrel with you, Valentine." Out of curiosity more than anything Sephiroth followed his gaze down toward the golden gauntlet he wore but did not remain staring for very long at all. It was impolite to.

"It does seem that, no matter what time Gaian's tend to come from, there is not ever a need for an introduction at least. There should be an odd comfort in that, somewhere." He mused, mostly for his own benefit and partly in a -albeit not very successful- way to lighten the mood.

[That sinking feeling. That's guilt. Because children liked to look at candy stores and, now that she thought about it, wouldn't the boy's brother be there too?]

You know...

[She's interrupted by the boy's next comment, which earns yet another pause. An opening of the mouth and a slow shutting of it before she smirks.]

I would hope not. Eating real elbows might not taste good.

[And a heartbeat later.]

Speaking of things tasting good, it might not be a bad idea to check out that candy store.

Vincent smiled behind his cowl, recognizing the attempt. Low laughter actually rumbled in his throat and chest, barely audible. "I suspect men like you and I stand out no matter what we might otherwise want." Certainly he stood out more now.

There had been comfort in the anonymity of a blue uniform suit and a role that meant one asked no questions. Even if individual Turks were identifiable, they became so many faces in a crowd as a group. But now...even if Vincent were to don the uniform once more, he would still stand out likely.

"I never had reason to quarrel with you, specifically. Larger reasons made it so." Letting his crimson eyes meet green once more, hint of a smile at his mouth. "This is a different world though, and I will treat it as such."
