— Reply with a character you wish to test in the game's setting.
— Feel free to use one of the prompts below or make one of your own!
— Tag around! This is a panfandom RP, so don't hesitate to tag both castmates and non-castmates.
— Most importantly, have fun!

1/ Welcome To The World Of Crystallis!
You have seen reality shatter and collapse around you, in the depths of the void you found a Crystal and now you are in the city of Aqures Ixen, surrounded by Moogles and people as lost and confused as you are. On the bright side, everyone thinks you're a legendary Hero! On the downside, they expect you to save the world. Maybe their expectations are a bit too much. Thankfully, you're not abandoned to your fate as a Moogle explains to you everything you need to know. It's probably time to get to know your companions in misfortune. Besides, it seems this has occurred very often this past year-- Maybe the characters who have been here for longer than you may help.

2/ Do You Like Your New Life?
No? Well, either way, you better get used to it, to your new powers, to your new house, to the ball of fur that follows your every steps—Who knows, maybe you'll even make some friends here. Besides, even if everyone expects you to save the world, fighting isn't the only way to do so. Maybe you could open a shop to help and properly equip your friends who are actually eager to fight. Maybe you could try and gather people who think it is possible to negotiate with the Calamity, you could even participate in the research on the Crystals— Or you could make sure your house is the prettiest of them all in Aqures Ixen. Anything is possible!

3/ Neighborhood Woes...
The government of Aqures Ixen is sorry, but there are too many of you Heroes of Light. Hence why there are no free houses left in district dedicated to housing you. This may also be why you're not alone in the house that was given to you. Hopefully you're not living with a mad villain plotting to take over the world and hopefully your neighbor isn't a singer who doesn't know how to sing. On the bright side, you may have be living with someone very cool and maybe an artist of great talent lives next door! It's just not likely.

4/ Crystallis De Chocobo
Upon arrival, your Moogle gave you a map of Crystallis. This world may be a bit big for you to explore, so why not go to the Chocobo Farm and ask for a Chocobo? These big birds can't fly, but they're much more efficient than horses when it comes to travelling. Maybe it's your first time riding a Chocobo; it might be a good idea to have someone with you in case something goes wrong. Or maybe the old man at the farm didn't have any Chocobos left and gave you some Chocobo Lure© so you can go and capture your own. You can find details on Chocobo Capture here.

5/ A Thing Called Mognet
Hopefully you weren't used to Internet and cellphones back home. Otherwise, you might be a tiny bit confused when your Moogle returns to you with a stack of letters. Or maybe someone else's Moogle is coming to you with a voice message it learnt by heart and is now going to recite it to you with a lot of Kupo. That's how the "network" works here.

6/ A Thing Called Strike
In spite of how old-fashioned it is, Mognet is very useful and odds are that you may have become dependent on it. Hopefully not, because one local tradition seems to be Mognet Strikes. Nobody knows any more whether the Moogles have legitimate reasons to go on strike or if they are just lazy. But today, Mognet is down, and to get information you have no choice but going to the public board in the third district or in taverns.

7/ I Believe I Can fly~
You are on an Airship! Airships regularly depart from Aqures Ixen and stop by most major cities in the world, so they're the perfect means of transportation for you to go and explore this world. You can also borrow the Heroes of Light's official Airship, the Enterprise and some characters even have their own airship! You can go anywhere in a matter of hours — One can only hope you don’t have motion sickness.

8/ Exploration
Enough expository banter. Now is the time to explore. Maybe rather than spending most of your time in Aqures Ixen, you'd rather spend it living in Balicea, or betting on Chocobo Races in Trano Golsaucia. Or maybe you'd rather go and explore the ancient ruins that may hold some precious information in the continent of ruins. With Airships and Chocobos at your disposal, you can go nearly anywhere!

9/ Random Encounter
You were minding your own business walking around, and suddenly monsters attacked you! Time to put to use the skills you've learned with your Jobs! Alternatively, maybe this encounter isn't random at all, and you have been sent on a mission to kick some imperial asses in the war confronting the Heran Empire and the Republic of Esdham. Good luck!

10/ Getting Jobs Is Hard
It all started when you asked Cid to give you a new Job. What could and should have been a formality, quickly turned into a trial. All you wanted was a Job, and here you are in the wild, hunting for a Malboro Vine. Or maybe you are in some ancient and decrepit ruins looking for an artifact. Or yet again, maybe he simply asked you to assist him to clean the laboratory. Getting new Jobs is not easy. Consider yourself happy though, at least you don't have to do that alone.

11/ The World Is Subject To Unrelenting Pain and Suffering…
This is why you should play a game. After all, there are things a lot more important than saving the world: Blitzball is one of them. Triple Triad is another. Why don't you take a break and do something different for once; anyone wanting to play Blitzball is given a special potion allowing them to breath underwater, whereas someone who wants to play Triple Triad should have no difficulties finding veterans more than happy to get rid of their low level cards.

12/ Events Of The Past
Missed an event you would have liked to participate in? The Test Drive Meme is the perfect place to play this event without being restricted by the game's chronology! Maybe you would have liked to be lost and attacked from all sides in the creepy Magitek Research Facility or maybe you'd have liked to celebrate the Christmas of Crystallis. Yet again, maybe you would have preferred to regain your true powers and subsequently be on your path to death, as in The Night of the Thirteen Moogles or chase ghosts for a living. Or how about reliving some of your Worst Memories or fighting in A War for future of the world?

13/ Wild Card
Don't like the options offered here? Go crazy and choose what you want to do in this world!

Rufus Shinra | Final Fantasy VII

[personal profile] ruinedempire 2015-12-26 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
1

A hero of light.

Wasn't that a laugh?

Rufus eyed the moogle by his side with mild disdain, clearly unamused by the entire situation he was tossed in. Aqures Ixen? Saving the world? His entire wardrobe changing to something he'd never find himself in on a normal day (gunner class)? Why would the problems of another planet be any concern to him? He really didn't care. Well, except for the whole Calamity of the Skies, that was a little too close to Jenova for him to just ignore.

Well, he might as well use his current status as a legendary hero to his advantage. Rufus turned to the Moogle and started to order it around, almost like it was second nature to him. Which. It was. Being the former president of Shinra sorta did that to people.

"You, grab me some water. Preferably in a bottle." He was tempted to ask for some painkillers for his headache that was forming, but he didn't really trust the Moogle well-enough to grab him something like that.

3

Was he really being forced to live in an apartment with these... charming individuals? Ever since his company fell after meteor, Rufus was used to living in places that weren't extravagant. That wasn't the problem. The problem was living with people that he didn't trust, at best. At worst, they were going to be nuisances that only served to make his headache grow.

Fantastic.

But he put on a charming facade, greeting any new roommate with a poised posture. None of the irritation he felt was visible on his face or tone. There was no point in make enemies right off the bat and if he played his cards right, they could be useful in the future.

"Greetings. It appears that we will be rooming together for an extended period of time."

"Greetings to you as well," Chrom replied with a smile. The weight he'd gained while wearing the Santa costume was gradually dropping, now that he'd gone back to his paladin/dark knight combination. He still didn't feel quite like his old self, but if he continued his rigorous training, he would be back in shape before the month ended, he was sure of that.

For now, he was dressed as properly as he could manage, a long white cape hanging from his shoulder guards, a gleaming sword at his hip.

"Have you had a chance to look around town yet, or shop for any essentials you might need?" Because now was the time, while he gave Morgan a chance to disarm any traps he might have left out hoping to trip up his mother. That wasn't exactly the kind of greeting meant for a young man this refined and poised.
ruinedempire: (One secret)

[personal profile] ruinedempire 2015-12-27 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
The first thing Rufus took note of was the weapon by Chrom's side. So, he was most likely proficient with a sword at the very least. His job title allowed for it. He didn't have any interest in using one himself, well he preferred not to get involved with... any of this in the first place, but he didn't have much of a choice right now.

Aggravating, but Rufus didn't want to waste time feeling bad for himself or whining about his situation. Such behavior would be useless.

"I've done a brief survey of this city, but not into full detail." He planned on looking into things more later on. In any new place, information was key. Know the surroundings, the politics, people that held power. "I'm assuming that you've been here much longer than I have. Anything specific that I should be aware of? Well, besides what the Moogle covered when I first arrived here."
shepherd_prince: (Eh?)

[personal profile] shepherd_prince 2015-12-27 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
"I arrived two months ago," Chrom replied. So he was relatively new himself, but he did know enough to be at least passing familiar with Crystallis and what was expected of him. "As was Pyrrha, another of our housemates. But Robin and Morgan have been here for many months. Whatever I fail to answer, they might be able to fill you in."

As for specifics... "Quite a bit," Chrom inclined his head. "I'm assuming your Moogle gave you the basic rundown of who we are, and why we're here. Currently we're waiting for the entity known as the Calamity to awaken. We were told it would do so this month, and made preparations to evacuate those who are threatened by it. But we don't know the exact day or time. For now, all we can do is wait."

That was, by far, the most urgent piece of information that Chrom could relay.

"There's a queen of this kingdom, but she hasn't been seen in quite some time. A man named Cid is filling in as the acting reagent, and if there's something you desperately require from your homeworld, or if there's a new Job you want to acquire and equip, you'll need to speak to him. He isn't exactly..." How to put it politely? "...the most diplomatic person in the city, and will allow you to make requests no more than once a month. He'll usually ask you to do something for him in return as well, so I wouldn't make requests lightly."
ruinedempire: (Default)

[personal profile] ruinedempire 2015-12-28 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
Robin and Morgan, he would remember those names.

"Yes, I've heard quite a lot about this Calamity." A terror from the skies whose aim was just to destroy planets and everything in its path. Definitely something Rufus didn't want to leave alone if he had a choice. He couldn't exactly rebuild Shinra if his world ended up being destroyed from this monster in the long run. It was similar to stopping Sephiroth and his remnants.

"If everything I've been informed about it is true, then it's in everyone's best interest to ensure its destruction." Of course, not counting people that wanted the world to be destroyed, but Rufus generally considered them to be a waste of space. A threat, at worst. "Do we have a plan in fighting it at all?"

...But a missing queen and a man that could bring him something from his homeworld. Useful to know.

[personal profile] shepherd_prince 2015-12-30 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Agreed," Chrom replied with a grim smile. "I'm glad we're of similar accord, then. Not everyone who arrives here demonstrates a willingness to participate." While he could understand and sympathize to some degree, eventually there came a time to put aside frustrations and injured pride to defend their homes.

But Rufus's question didn't have a good answer. Chrom shook his head, his brow furrowing seriously again. "Not at the moment. Nothing can slow it, hurt it, or push it back. Not that we know about, in any case." He turned to point in the direction of the airship port.

"We're to meet with the Sage soon, where we might receive more answers. But even then, there's no telling what information he's willing to give, and we don't have any way of verifying whether or not it's even true. But it's all we've got."

3; Not Sorry~

[personal profile] shinrasfinest 2015-12-28 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
It's probably a good thing that the desk against the far side of the living room wall didn't face the door. Not to mention that, today at least, Sephiroth had his hair all scraped up into a high tail and then loosely top-knotted, so he might not seem all that familiar from behind. Even his attire, a dull blue sweater with a high neck, might throw off anyone from Gaia that might have arrived this time around. At least, on a preliminary once-over.

The man paused from his work at the greeting that sounded from the doorway into the room; the voice that it was spoken in was at first a little familiar but the more the comment hung in the room the less Sephiroth was convinced of it's owner. Familiar or not, as well it would be rude to simply ignore the newest resident to their house. The silver head turned to look over it's muscular shoulder, a narrowed eye peered through the gap between the side of Sephiroth's face and a short bang which hung forwards.

Recognition rested somewhere in that pale green eye but between the younger man he remembered and the fact he could be mistaken; it could just be a fleeting resemblance, Sephiroth wasn't about to call it ...yet.

"You needn't worry-" He turned his head back forwards and down to the paperwork he was sat before. "-provided there is room somewhere else, the government aren't too strict in granting permission to relocate."
ruinedempire: (Brick by brick)

never be sorry

[personal profile] ruinedempire 2015-12-29 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
He didn't recognize the soldier at this angle, not at first. While long silver hair was a pretty big giveaway, Rufus had never seen it in a ponytail. Furthermore, the clothes were far too... simple, and not the familiar black outfit that he always saw him in.

So, when Sephiroth turned his head, Rufus' polished facade shuttered for a moment, shock and maybe a hint of fear passed through his expression. He was on this foreign planet with his world's most dangerous man, the one that summoned meteor and had a habit of cheating death. This wasn't Kadaj who he could easily manipulate. Not only that, he didn't have any of the Turks near him. Yes, he was armed, but had no fantasies of being able to fight Sephiroth. The best he could hope for was escaping with his life.

His fingers twitched by his side, but he managed to cool his expression down to a calm one, even though he was still obviously tense. He knew that things could go sour for him at any moment, but... Sephiroth hadn't attacked him yet. Maybe this city had done something to him, made him less of a nightmare, but he didn't want to just count on that for his survival. Running right now wasn't an option either, so he resorted to the one thing he could count on: his ability to talk himself out of situations.

Maybe he could learn why the general almost seemed like a normal person at the moment too.

"I'd hope that I won't resort to such measures." Rufus wasn't in his familiar white outfit, but he knew that his face was pretty recognizable. He used to enjoy all the attention he got as the president of Shinra, but with a good majority of the population still hating him and his company after meteor, it had become somewhat of a hindrance. Rufus had to lie low while he rebuilt Shinra and its reputation; it was the only way to get on top again.

"In an ideal world, we'd be able to push any set of differences aside to work toward a common goal. To ensure our survival." Did Sephiroth even care about saving this planet though? The man he ended up becoming sure had no regard for Gaia. Despite his trepidation, however, a trace of amusement entered Rufus' voice. "But we aren't in an ideal world, are we? Brought here without notice and forced to fight a war for these people. Reality is often a rude awakening, isn't it?"

Sephiroth forced to fight a war for someone-- the irony wasn't lost on Rufus.
shinrasfinest: (Concern)

nope, never :3

[personal profile] shinrasfinest 2015-12-29 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Any uncertainty Sephiroth had reserved with regards to the identity of the other man shattered as if it had been dropped forcefully from a great height. Not only in the manner that Rufus had responded but how he'd continued to go on and string such a delicate array of potentially triggering, ironic comments all together like that.

Sephiroth had always had one of the sharpest minds; whether that be as the monster he would grow into or the man he was currently. A visible thread of tension might be imagined to be seen shooting up between the back of his shoulders and the legendary hero pulled his posture up straighter as he put his pen down.

He turned more definitively on his chair and took a longer, more in-depth look over Rufus; opening up all of his well known facial features, even if his once-gleaming green eyes seemed a lot more subdued than they had been on Gaia. The days of being mako infused were a long way behind him.

"There is always a war to be fought, one way or the other."
ruinedempire: (A debt to the planet)

[personal profile] ruinedempire 2015-12-30 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Any doubt that the SOLDIER didn't recognize him vanished once Sephiroth fully turned to face him. He still wasn't sure what he planned to do, but Rufus didn't intend to lower his guard down. Well, it probably wouldn't do much if he was completely honest, but if he was going to be attacked, Rufus wanted to at least be expecting it.

"And I'm sure that you're more accustomed to that little fact than most." Rufus still held his amusement even as the former hero stared at him. Hojo's experiment; raised by his company to be a soldier that surpassed everyone else. It worked, but it pretty much backfired on all of them in the end. "However, you're far different from when I last heard of you."

In a way, it was a little odd to be conversing with Sephiroth like this. While they met several times in the past, Rufus was still rather young when he 'perished' at Nibelheim. From then on, he never really confronted Sephiroth himself-- Kadaj was the closest he got. He wasn't complaining though.
shinrasfinest: (Peer down at)

[personal profile] shinrasfinest 2016-01-02 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"Quite."

At least, it was a suitable remark to cover both of Rufus' comments in his direction as Sephiroth continued his highly-attentive inspection of the other man. His bearing was certainly not friendly but by the same token it lacked any immediate threat; after all, despite what Sephiroth now knew as a result of his extended tenure on Crystallis, lashing out at the President's son would accomplish nothing but meaningless revenge.

"And you've certainly matured from when I last heard of you."

...and that had to have been a fair few months ago, at least. Prior to Sephiroth's summoning as a Hero of Light, that is. His career as the golden boy of the SOLDIER program had often had him personally playing bodyguard for the President and his immediate family in times of direct threats against the company, so while Rufus' was not an unfamiliar face there had been other more pressing assignments to which Sephiroth had been engaged.

The Wutai-an conflict. AVALANCHE's insurgence to Junon. Followed by Genesis' rebellion...and finally Nibelheim.

"This place has a habit of reaching into timelines, at seemingly random points."

Reno had avoided the last wave of incoming heroes. He hadn't wanted to deal with answering strangers' questions when he was still struggling with his own. Not that it had made much of a difference. Grit had arrived, saying he'd known Reno in yet another world, and then Reno had found Elena.

Avoiding the temple clearly didn't make a difference. So, if only for curiosity's sake, Reno had gone this time. If the countdown in the lab was correct, today would be the day the Crystal spit out more "Heroes of Light."

He just didn't expect to see another familiar blonde among them.

"Rufus?" he asked, staring in awe.
ruinedempire: (A debt to the planet)

[personal profile] ruinedempire 2015-12-31 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
Reno was always going to be someone that stuck out like a sore thumb, the long red hair was distinctive enough even though he wasn't wearing his Turk uniform right now. Still, the sight of him made Rufus a little less tense, his posture relaxing ever so lightly. It probably wasn't too noticeable, but anyone that knew him well would most likely be aware.

Even though Reno had a habit of being reckless and talking too much, Rufus trusted him. He stuck around when the company collapsed and he saved his life on multiple occasions. Reno, Rude, Tseng, and Elena. They were perhaps the only individuals that Rufus could trust with his life. Even having one of the Turks here made Rufus feel slightly better about his current situation, even if he wouldn't admit it.

"Reno."

He calmly replied, acknowledging him with a slight nod. They may be in an entirely different world, but Rufus expected for their dynamic to be the same, even though he didn't have the remnants of his company or billions of gil to back him up right now.
shinra_dog: (You're Okay)

[personal profile] shinra_dog 2015-12-31 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Reno managed a breathy laugh of relief. Rufus was here. Whether or not Rufus should be considered a Hero of Light was another question, but the Crystal had determined Reno matched whatever it wanted. Hell, why not the president of Shinra?

It took a conscious effort to remain where he was.

"You'd prob'ly threaten t' shoot me if I said I could hug you right now, huh?" he asked with a wry smirk. "How... What're yer last memories?"

Because that could change everything. Though it would appear Rufus wasn't still angry with him, looks could be deceiving... especially with the young Shinra.
ruinedempire: (Maybe something honest)

[personal profile] ruinedempire 2015-12-31 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
"That would be the least worrying threat you'd receive." He replied smoothly, although he wasn't really serious about what he said. It could be hard to tell for most people though.

Rufus was well used to Reno's snark by now, knowing the talkative and wry Turk for years. Perhaps it was irritating in the very beginning, but he mostly found himself tolerating it nowadays. Of course, it depended on the situation, but Rufus tended to think that getting flustered or showing irritation was the worst reaction he could show.

It was an odd question, but Rufus knew that Reno wouldn't ask something like that without a reason. He intended to ask more about that soon. "Kadaj and his little gang were defeated-- the rain healed my Geostigma. Well, everyone's, from the reports we've gotten." Sephiroth's plan ruined once again, it was rather satisfactory. Cloud most likely did the finishing blow and that was all fine to him. Rufus didn't mind working with AVALANCHE if it ended up benefiting him in the end anyway.
shinra_dog: (hoodie)

[personal profile] shinra_dog 2015-12-31 08:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh."

Reno tried, perhaps belatedly, not to look disappointed. This was a good thing, right? No weirdness, no memories of Atia, no hurt feelings or residual anger and frustration. Blank slate. Different Rufus -- or, Rufus had truly gone home and had forgotten it all. Only to be abducted again, unfortunately, but it wasn't as if he knew. Either way, this was simpler.

He managed a smile and let himself finally walk closer. "Sounds like we're about the same. That's good. You'll figure it out fast, but time here is kinda..." He wiggled his hand to indicate unstable. "People from all over, different worlds an' different times."

Wait til Rufus saw Cloud...
ruinedempire: (No trust)

[personal profile] ruinedempire 2016-01-01 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
A small frown formed on his features, not expecting for Reno to look disappointed by the information. The reaction was enough for him to dig into, immediately. While he didn't doubt that Reno would still be loyal to him, there was something here that Rufus just couldn't ignore either. The Turks were... the most useful asset he had and he didn't want to lose that, especially in a world that wasn't their own.

His expression became almost cool, listening to what Reno was saying but nothing in that was truly troublesome. Well, the different times could be something to watch out for, but Reno already admitted that they were from about the same time. It couldn't be something that Rufus had done in the future that made Reno upset then.

Normally, he wouldn't care at all about who he had to stomp to get what he wanted, but Rufus didn't put the Turks in that category. Honestly, it was more trouble than it was worth. Betray or hurt one, and you get the whole pack after you. That was how they operated and he'd rather not be on the bad end of it. It was nothing about how a small part of him actually cared

"Mind explaining the full story, Reno." More of an order than an actual request.
shinra_dog: (shhh)

[personal profile] shinra_dog 2016-01-01 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
"Uh..."

There was no question in Reno's mind exactly what Rufus meant. They'd worked together long enough, and there was never any point in playing dumb. And as awkward and uncomfortable as it would be to admit the truth, Reno couldn't really lie to Rufus. Not when he asked like that, and when he'd probably see through whatever yarn Reno could spin on short notice.

The best Reno could do was to cut out all the details and hope they could still look at each other.

"It's... complicated?" He gestured subtly toward the moogle nearby. "Sort of a private conversation thing?"
ruinedempire: (Brick by brick)

[personal profile] ruinedempire 2016-01-03 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
Rufus arched an eyebrow at the answer. Complicated and needed to be discussed in private? What in the world did Reno get involved in while he was gone? So many questions entered his mind and most of them could only be answered by the Turk in front of him. At least Reno didn't try to lie out of this situation-- that was the last thing he needed now.

He told himself that he could handle any news or information that Reno could give him. Rufus just had to assume the worst or weirdest and deal with it accordingly. Then they could get started on more practical things.

"Moogle, leave us." Rufus ordered without taking his eyes off Reno.
shinra_dog: (awkward)

[personal profile] shinra_dog 2016-01-03 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
Reno watched the surprised looking moogle flutter off with some sympathy -- and jealousy. With a soft sigh through his nose, he nodded toward a nearby building just to get out of the street and away from any passers-by.

"Okay, so, this isn't my first 'new world experience' sorta deal," Reno admitted, lowering his voice. "An' where I was at before, you were there for awhile too. Different timeline, different you, or you forgot it all -- because obviously you don't remember any of it -- doesn't really matter how it works. An' we were the only Shinra there for awhile, so, y'know, we were close."

Right.

"Um, an' there was this, like, pantheon a' gods -- for reals -- one major goddess in particular, Atia," he continued, trying to hit the major points before he wore out Rufus' patience. "And she sorta liked to be worshiped in a real particular way, and..."

Reno couldn't meet Rufus' eyes for the next part.

"You, um, you ever think about... y'know, fuckin' an employee?"
ruinedempire: (No trust)

[personal profile] ruinedempire 2016-01-10 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
It was rather easy to take in the fact that Reno has been in another world-- they were in one right now after all. He believed him, that part he had no trouble or problems with. The fact that he himself was there, though, was a bit more concerning, especially since he couldn't remember any of it.

Or it was just a different version of him? Was that possible? He wasn't sure which was more plausible. Reno didn't seem to know either.

But Rufus had no time to really dwell on that particular thought. Not now. Not when Reno just asked him that question. He stared at the Turk for a long time, speechless for once in his life. Did he ever-- what kind of question... oh.

It wasn't hard to put the pieces together after that.

"No, can't say I have, Reno." His voice became tight, as he tried to push down the sudden feeling of awkwardness at the news Reno just gave him. Rufus was partially successful.

He never thought about sleeping with anyone in the Shinra Company, let alone any of the Turks. Rufus was honestly more focused on other matters, like making sure that their planet didn't explode from Meteor. Then it was the whole affair with Kadaj... and rebuilding their planet. So to be told that he not only slept with Reno but didn't remember it was a lot to take in.
shinra_dog: (Don't Go)

Reno's ears burned with the blush of embarrassment. He coughed. "Yeah, that's what I thought..."

After a moment he waved his hand quickly, lest Rufus get the wrong impression. "I mean, it's not like I have any expectations of anything, I don't wanna be involved with you again or anything!" Shit, was that insulting? "Not -- not that you weren't good, or you aren't attractive, you are -- "

Gods, this was just getting worse.

Reno sighed, exasperated with himself. "Look, I just want us to be okay -- as normal as we can manage here. Okay?"

As normal as they could now manage after this being Rufus' first impression of the new and improved Reno. Strange, alternate reality sex memories. Reno understood he was asking a lot for Rufus to accept. He just figured he'd give the other man some space until Rufus needed him for something.

The more Reno talked, the bigger his headache grew. This was one unexpected development that Rufus honestly had no idea how to handle at the time being. Somehow, this was getting more complicated than the fact that he was taken to another world where they had to fight a Calamity and save the world. That was typical hero business, even though he didn't get himself involved on that in a normal situation. But he could formulate a plan to deal with it, Rufus was confident in that.

This, however, was something else. He always trusted the Turks and never thought that their relationship would change. Their loyalty to him after Meteor spoke volumes and Rufus was honestly grateful, even if he wouldn't admit it out loud.

A small, but audible sigh left him, but Rufus looked like he lost some of the tension when Reno admitted that he just wanted things to be normal. It wasn't going to be that easy, not when he couldn't help but think that he slept with Reno in some capacity, but he'd definitely preferred to keep up some form of normalcy between them. This was an issue that he either needed to just shove into the back of his mind and forget about it or deal with it in some manner. He just didn't have a solution yet.

"I think we can manage that." Rufus was good at keeping appearances at least.

Reno chewed his lip and tried to smile. Because the other side of being so closely involved with Rufus, even just being a Turk after everything that had happened, was being sensitive to some of the president's more subtle mannerisms. A slight change in tone, a microexpression, there was always a signal if something was wrong. Something was wrong, and Reno knew that, as unavoidable as it seemed to be, it was his fault. But he smiled and nodded, because now was not the time to push Rufus further.

"Yeah. Yeah, okay," he agreed for the time being. "Sorry. Just, um, don't tell Elena? I haven't told her, well, I haven't told anyone... anything. Ever."

Because lying clearly solved everything. Eventually he planned to handle it, but less immediately would be ideal.

"I'd totally understand, though, if you'd rather her take the lead on things. Um, but I guess the least I can do while I'm here is show you around a little if you want, help you find stuff. What's yer housing assignment?"

Hearing that Elena was also here was a relief. So that was two of the Turks that he could count on, even if his relationship with Reno changed in a way that he would've never expected. But yes, dealing with that little matter later was ideal right now.

"Telling her isn't a priority right now. We'll keep this between us for the time being."

Rufus frowned a little at Reno's suggestion to have Elena take the lead on things. While he didn't doubt her capability at all, Reno was the more seasoned Turk between the two. It wouldn't make sense for him to change that up, even with the new dynamic between them. He trusted Reno to keep a professional and dedicated mindset to his job as a Turk, not letting personal feelings get in the way.

"You're a Turk, and I expect you to keep your duties despite what's happened." It was his way of saying that he didn't want Reno to step down. "I'm housed in B-04."
