Test Drive Meme

Applications will open on June 30th at 15:00 EST and close on July 08th at 14:59 EST
— Reply with a character you wish to test in the game's setting.
— Feel free to use one of the prompts below or make one of your own!
— Tag around! This is a panfandom RP, so don't hesitate to tag both castmates and non-castmates.
— Most importantly, have fun!
1/ Welcome To The World Of Crystallis!
You have seen reality shatter and collapse around you, in the depths of the void you found a Crystal and now you are in the city of Aqures Ixen, surrounded by Moogles and people as lost and confused as you are. On the bright side, everyone thinks you're a legendary Hero! On the downside, they expect you to save the world. Maybe their expectations are a bit too much. Thankfully, you're not abandoned to your fate as a Moogle explains to you everything you need to know. It's probably time to get to know your companions in misfortune. Besides, it seems this has occurred very often this past year-- Maybe the characters who have been here for longer than you may help.
2/ Do You Like Your New Life?
No? Well, either way, you better get used to it, to your new powers, to your new house, to the ball of fur that follows your every steps—Who knows, maybe you'll even make some friends here. Besides, even if everyone expects you to save the world, fighting isn't the only way to do so. Maybe you could open a shop to help and properly equip your friends who are actually eager to fight. Maybe you could try and gather people who think it is possible to negotiate with the Calamity, you could even participate in the research on the Crystals— Or you could make sure your house is the prettiest of them all in Aqures Ixen. Anything is possible!
3/ Neighborhood Woes...
The government of Aqures Ixen is sorry, but there are too many of you Heroes of Light. Hence why there are no free houses left in district dedicated to housing you. This may also be why you're not alone in the house that was given to you. Hopefully you're not living with a mad villain plotting to take over the world and hopefully your neighbor isn't a singer who doesn't know how to sing. On the bright side, you may have be living with someone very cool and maybe an artist of great talent lives next door! It's just not likely.
4/ Crystallis De Chocobo
Upon arrival, your Moogle gave you a map of Crystallis. This world may be a bit big for you to explore, so why not go to the Chocobo Farm and ask for a Chocobo? These big birds can't fly, but they're much more efficient than horses when it comes to travelling. Maybe it's your first time riding a Chocobo; it might be a good idea to have someone with you in case something goes wrong. Or maybe the old man at the farm didn't have any Chocobos left and gave you some Chocobo Lure© so you can go and capture your own. You can find details on Chocobo Capture here.
5/ A Thing Called Mognet
Hopefully you weren't used to Internet and cellphones back home. Otherwise, you might be a tiny bit confused when your Moogle returns to you with a stack of letters. Or maybe someone else's Moogle is coming to you with a voice message it learnt by heart and is now going to recite it to you with a lot of Kupo. That's how the "network" works here.
6/ A Thing Called Strike
In spite of how old-fashioned it is, Mognet is very useful and odds are that you may have become dependent on it. Hopefully not, because one local tradition seems to be Mognet Strikes. Nobody knows any more whether the Moogles have legitimate reasons to go on strike or if they are just lazy. But today, Mognet is down, and to get information you have no choice but going to the public board in the third district or in taverns.
7/ I Believe I Can fly~
You are on an Airship! Airships regularly depart from Aqures Ixen and stop by most major cities in the world, so they're the perfect means of transportation for you to go and explore this world. You can also borrow the Heroes of Light's official Airship, the Enterprise and some characters even have their own airship! You can go anywhere in a matter of hours — One can only hope you don’t have motion sickness.
8/ Exploration
Enough expository banter. Now is the time to explore. Maybe rather than spending most of your time in Aqures Ixen, you'd rather spend it living in Balicea, or betting on Chocobo Races in Trano Golsaucia. Or maybe you'd rather go and explore the ancient ruins that may hold some precious information in the continent of ruins. With Airships and Chocobos at your disposal, you can go nearly anywhere!
9/ Random Encounter
You were minding your own business walking around, and suddenly monsters attacked you! Time to put to use the skills you've learned with your Jobs! Alternatively, maybe this encounter isn't random at all, and you have been sent on a mission to kick some imperial asses in the war confronting the Heran Empire and the Republic of Esdham. Good luck!
10/ Getting Jobs Is Hard
It all started when you asked Cid to give you a new Job. What could and should have been a formality, quickly turned into a trial. All you wanted was a Job, and here you are in the wild, hunting for a Malboro Vine. Or maybe you are in some ancient and decrepit ruins looking for an artifact. Or yet again, maybe he simply asked you to assist him to clean the laboratory. Getting new Jobs is not easy. Consider yourself happy though, at least you don't have to do that alone.
11/ The World Is Subject To Unrelenting Pain and Suffering…
This is why you should play a game. After all, there are things a lot more important than saving the world: Blitzball is one of them. Triple Triad is another. Why don't you take a break and do something different for once; anyone wanting to play Blitzball is given a special potion allowing them to breath underwater, whereas someone who wants to play Triple Triad should have no difficulties finding veterans more than happy to get rid of their low level cards.
12/ Events Of The Past
Missed an event you would have liked to participate in? The Test Drive Meme is the perfect place to play this event without being restricted by the game's chronology! Maybe you would have liked to be lost and attacked from all sides in the creepy Magitek Research Facility or maybe you'd have liked to celebrate the Christmas of Crystallis. Yet again, maybe you would have preferred to regain your true powers and subsequently be on your path to death, as in The Night of the Thirteen Moogles or chase ghosts for a living. Or how about reliving some of your Worst Memories or fighting in A War for future of the world?
13/ Wild Card
Don't like the options offered here? Go crazy and choose what you want to do in this world!

Sorry, I love my knight-types, dark or light.
Of course, some of that had changed since she'd come to this world. She'd had some teachers, and had to learn self-defense, which was more than just dodging and sneaking. She'd also learned some things--like the value of the element of surprise!
SHE clearly saw the zombie, and it was easier to move to hit it herself and knock it away from him. Lydia was less-in-danger than he was, in some ways. Rapier out and striking quickly, dagger in her off-hand and she was light on her feet as the small, dark-haired 15 year old darted out of seemingly nowhere.]
it's cool. I like my girls dark and gloomy lol
They learned early, to be hardened to danger and war before they were able to really grasp what even humanity was. He knew that first hand but then, he always had been hardened around the edges with a chip on his shoulder. Much as he hated to admit it to himself.
The little girl; he watched as she went against a zombie, so hideous, he doubted it's own mother ever loved it. Seifer was an ass and of course, he would underestimate her ability to protect herself, so he stepped in and started fighting right beside her but he took it upon himself to take all the glory.]
“Aren't you a little young to be out here?” [he asked, but his tone wasn't exactly condescending, and it wasn't full of concern either. The corner of his lip curled up, almost kindly as he sliced across the diseased looking stomach of the creature.]
*chuckle* Good to know? :-p
"I'm small for my age. Don't let it fool you."
[But she was clearly used to working and adapting with others, and her height to her advantage. Keeping low as he sliced at the stomach and she went for the legs. Quick strikes, in and out fast.]
*laughs.* dunno, maybe
“So, you say.” [he paused.] “How old are you?”
[As they attacked it together, he noted the way she made quick work of it's legs, bits of flesh and clotted blood flying from it's body. Color him impressed, he always thought the smaller ones back home couldn't hold their own especially because he'd seen them crying and freaking the hell out when danger happened. He kept attacking as the thing grunted and cast zombie on him. All this time spent with the tonberries and he hadn't thought to go after these guys for practice, so it was no surprise a cure was cast and made him feel sicker than a dead chocobo.]
“Snit, I don't have esuna in my inventory. You got anything?” [This would have been a lot easier if he could junction a Guardian Force and draw esuna from some beast. He doesn't want to go out like a putz by some simple ass monster that hardly dents good reasons to die.]
Re: *laughs.* dunno, maybe
Does it matter?
[Now was not the time, especially since he was in a lot more danger than she was.]
Just stay back, alright?
[Lydia wasn't stupid; he might have actual training, but she had the experience here. Easy to see by watching him that he'd been trained. But she'd been there for almost 2 years now. She had a better idea of what she was doing, even without better skills for this.
First thing she did was absorb stats being the Vampire she was, before lashing out with a particle thrower beam launched via her dagger. The advanced job of Necromancer allowed her to use her Ghostbuster-skills without a proton-pack. Time to make better use of this.]
If you have any healing, use it on the zombie.
[She'd expected to be helping with a tonberry, if anything. Not a zombie. Lydia would manage though.]
no subject
[The zombie effects had him almost on his knees, but what he remembered about undead monsters was that they always went down with cure spells and items.]
“Yeah, figured that out just now.”
[He cast cure on it, making it jerk around uncomfortablely, which only made him smirk smugly. Served the damn thing right. He casting cure spells as he watched the girl go to work. She seemed to know how to fight this particular type of beast. He really should have been paying attention and just went after another tonberry, but seriously, he would have been bothered the whole time by being watched.]
no subject
You always make small talk while trying not to die?
[Then again, she'd met other people who talked while fighting too. She and Beetlejuice would banter as well--and she really missed his puns and wordplay now. Lydia would deal though, falling back from the swipe and knowing she'd Regenerate.]
Sorry, not sure if the vampire class is hurt by cure? Sorry if it is.
[He smirked, casting cure on her to heal the wound she had received.] You must be the life of parties. Your cheerful and sunny behavior is adding the pep in my step that I need in my day. All that vitamin D, I'm feeling less depressed.
[He continued casting cure on the zombie, but he was running low on magical energy reserves, he, however, was managing to avoid to get hit with more spells from the zombie.]
No worries. It's not harmful, but only half-as-effective.
Talk to me when I'm not trying to keep you from dying, and I'm a lot more cheery.
[It did make her grin though, as really she tended to brood and shut herself away when she did get depressed. But since their vision of a potential bad future, Lydia'd been trying hard to not do that. Even though it hurt, when those she got close to went into Crystal Stasis, she'd seen what it could drive her too.]
"So focus on tall dark and gruesome here."
[Good advice, and if he was so hot to take the glory she'd let him. Lydia still didn't like killing monsters--even monsters that were trying to kill her. Lashing out again with the Particle Thrower beam, its strength quadrupled thanks to the Power Surge. Following up with a block from another swipe with her rapier.]
no subject
“Thanks, kid. Means a whole hell of a lot.” [It was his fault really, he shouldn't have gone into these ruins guns blazing and only attacking monsters he knew well enough from back home.]
“Gotcha.” [he answered, as he mustered up the energy to move forward and slice it across the face, leaving a wide and fugly gash across it's left cheek, then cast another cure spell. Between this young girl's attacks, which were pretty badass and his attempt at helping her out. Yeah, when did that happen? He was supposed to be stealing the spotlight here.]
no subject
He was more than welcome to steal the spotlight, as Lydia let herself fall back into a more support role. Being quick and distracting the zombie if it looked like it would go for him, she was running interference. Harder than it looked, and she swore silently to herself to start practicing more. Or at least learning to be more effectively aggressive, even though she preferred self-defense.
Once the monster fell, then she'd apologize for making him feel uncomfortable. Even if this situation, or close enough to it, was what she'd worried about.]
no subject
He continued casting cure spells, the thing started warbling back and forth, swaying like it might fall, meaning it was off center and confused by pain, so after she attacked it, he went in and did what he hoped was a finishing blow by stabbing it clear in the middle as it's innards exploded from it's back and he slipped out his gunblade, looking at the gross zombie insides that had gotten all over it and shook off the heavier stuff from it.
It fell to the ground while he wasn't looking and he turned to look at the young woman.] "Spoils are yours for the taking. I'm not really interested in it."
[He was more interested in tonberries, but until he got something that cured zombie, it looked like he had to travel back to the kingdom and do just that. He ached all over and felt like crap, so he hoped he'd make it back in one piece.] "Now about that question I asked earlier, Sunshine. If you don't mind answering. How old are you? So, I stop thinking of you as a ten year old. Which if you are, I'm beyond impressed but I'd still be impressed regardless."
no subject
You're the one who said you were after gil. Go ahead.
[Gesturing, before pulling out a cloth from her messenger bag and cleaning her weapons. Putting them away, then offering him the cloth too.]
"Sunshine" is a new one. Better than Creepy Child, especially since I'm not a child.
[Definitely easier to talk to once she's not fighting something and trying to keep him alive.]
I'm 15, just small for my age. And sorry for watching you, but I was afraid this might happen. I've heard enough about tonberries to know the more you kill, the more dangerous they are.
[Offering her hand out, proper introduction.]
I'm Lydia.
no subject
“If you're sure...” [he gathered it up from the creature's, putting it in his own heavy bag of provisions. He found nothing else other than gil though.
Grinning, he took the cloth from her and wiped off his gunblade. Sure, it didn't gleam or anything but it was a lot less disgusting now.]
“Would you prefer devil girl? Or maybe ride the night, Darkshine Suzie?” [he smirked playfully.] “I like that, I think I'll call you Suzie Darkshine, of the night ride.”
[He'd be fine, once he got back. He started going through his bag, looking around to make sure he didn't have anything anti-zombie, came up with nothing. When she answered his question, finally, he raised his eyebrow.] “Yeah, you are tiny for your age but it's cool, we're chill. Huh. I was used to killing them back in my world, they were easy to in an old tower and It was a good way to train. What happens here when you fight too many?” [He arched his eyebrow. He had heard the Tonberry King came but he had never witnessed it.]
[he looked at her small and dainty hand, still surprised someone so small and frail looking was able to keep him from getting killed. He took her hand and shook it, something of a smiling smirk on his lips.] "Seifer. Good to meet you. So, how long you been in this hyneforsaken place...or are you a local?"
no subject
Not a local, just been here long enough to...learn.
[Oh there are stories there. The easy smile falters for all of a second, sadness and pain in dark eyes, before the good cheer is back.]
I've only heard rumors really, but I'm not one for fighting unless its in self-defense. I'm too used to the monsters being my friends. Tonberries seem to just deal the same damage you give them, and it seems like the stronger you are, the worse it is.
[Giving a shrug of her own, before crossing her arms and walking around to look him over. Mostly because of the zombifi state.]
Dunno if it's true.
[Yeah, he definitely didn't look good. They'd have to be careful, but he didn't exactly seem like the type who would place it safe if he was hunting tonberries to begin with.]
How lucky do you feel, Seifer?
[That's a curious question, and an impish grin.]
no subject
“Think, maybe, you could teach me the ends and outs, eh?”
[He looked thought.] “Everyone noticed back home that the more skilled you were, the tougher the monster but I don't mind. A challenge is always good, keeps the mind sharp and the body in shape.”
[Cocking an eyebrow, his eyes went into slits and his lips turned mischievous.] “Depends on why you're asking and if there's hot chicks involved.” [Though he always got by on a graze, especially lately. He felt lucky half the time.]
Good thing it's a Test Drive. Not sure this'd work in game. ^^
I'm not skilled enough to teach. I've just had to learn.
[Again that smile falters for a second, before Lydia is forcefully shoving the thoughts away. She misses her friends and mentors, but she's not alone. Even if she's terrified of those who remain leaving her.]
Sadly, no hot-chicks. But like I said, I hear rumors.
[Honestly, school was good for that at least.]
It's extremely rare, and extremely unlikely...but we wanna find a hamster. And if we do, do NOT attack it first. Got it?
[She is firm on that point. The rumors she'd heard painted this as the most unlikely scenario, almost unbelievable. But that was part of why it got repeated a lot, as a horror story exception among all the tales of terrifying hamsters.]
XD it's cool, I'm not sure if you can snap your fingers with gloves. Also, Why can't it be reaaaaal?
[Noting the second falter of her smile, which seems not only uncannily but unnatural in it's movements.] “You okay there, Suzie? The zombie didn't cast that crap on you too, did it?”
[He snaps his gloved fingers in unison with his words.] "Aw, snap. And here I thought you had something fun planned."
[He blinked.] “Why would it be hard to find a hamster? What the hell are they supposed to do here? Chew your face off?” [but yeah, whatever, he wouldn't attack it... she had been very specific about that.]
B/c I'm not sure how friendly monsters work? I might just roll a D100 to see if we find one.
[She can tease back, but she didn't object to the other nicknames. A headshake though, at his concern.]
The zombie didn't get me. Not sure if it'd work on me anyways, with the Jobs I have equipped.
[It might, it might not. Lydia wasn't eager to find out the hard way though.]
All I know is they're terrifying here. But if we're lucky, we might just be able to get you cured.
[Beckoning, as she moved back to being alert. Silent--utterly silent, and no shadow. Unusual that--had to be the Jobs right?]
I read that hamsters aren't friendly ha. but okay, I'll follow your lead.
[He smirked, he might keep it up a little to annoy her but considering he had done some growing up, he wouldn't continue for long. The only ones he reserved the never ending torment for, were chicken-wuss and Leonhart.]
Good. Long as you're fine, that's all that matters.
[head tilt.] How can they cure me exactly?
[he followed after her, trying to be just as small and quick as her but unfortunately his bulk didn't help so much.]
One of them is. Sadly, D100 was not in our favor. *sigh*
Because a guy with a cool name like Seifer shouldn't call me something so boring as Suzie.
[Still, this kind of teasing she could deal with. Much like how she dealt with BJ, or Santa here on Crystallis.]
How gallant, worried for my safety when I'm not the one who got infected by a zombie.
[She's been exploring with people who are much less stealthy than he is, and others who are about as tall and bulky and just as stealthy if not more so.
Like Sephiroth.Lydia has learned to adapt. Keeping her voice to a whisper.]IF we can find the right one, supposedly we can get a boon. Not sure what kind, but that's what the rumors say.
Darn. D: This sucks for the infamous Seifer.
[he frowned a little, barely noticeable and shrugged his aching shoulders. Couldn't he care about someone's safety? Wait... why was he getting all sensitive like a stupid chick at a romantic movie. She didn't even know who he was long before he came here. He chuckled instead upon realizing this.] “Call me a gentleman? I can't exactly leave a lady without some concern in her direction.”
[he continued to follow her, his speaking had been in a whisper, only stepping to talk for a moment and then continue walking.] What''s a boon? [he felt like an idiot right about now, like he should know the things he had no clue about. He promised himself he would make sure to read over the guidebook and actually ask Mars more questions regarding this world.]
It does, but the thread has been awesome.
I don't think gentlemen use language I've heard you use.
[Turning, grin impish once more with a playful wink.]
But I won't judge. A 'boon' is a kind of favor, something good. Usually requires some service.
[She's happy to help guide. Lydia wishes there had been better guides for her, but she was grateful for those who had helped. She missed them--Kenshin, Olivier, Yuffie--a lot.
3 hours, and no sign of a hamster. Plenty of zombies and malboros to dodge. Not that she'd discourage Seifer if he really wanted to fight, but it was better to just run. Especially from the malboros.]
I've been having a blast with you, darlng <3
“Sure do got a dirty mouth but if it cleaning it up takes being a gentlemen to you, I might just consider it.”
[he winked back.]
“I really need to brush up on this world's lore. Thanks for the crash course and answering my questions.“
[He wasn't stupid enough to go after anything right now, while the zombie spell wasn't depleting his health, he still feel ill and wouldn't be up to par in fighting anything, even a tonberry, since he had that down to a science.]
“I really think I outta just had back and get myself a couple holy water, now that I've got reserves on gil.”
Same here ; D
It's not just this world, but then I've read a lot. Even back home.
[Then she was busy focusing on trying to help them both dodge or escape from anything, while hunting the elusive hamster. Glad to see he had sense enough to not push it, but it wouldn't have surprised her. For all she had experience, Lydia didn't consider herself an experienced adventurer when it came to fighting.
Just as glad when he starts talking about heading back.]
Dunno if Holy Water'll work, but there are definitely some mages back in Aquares Ixen. If we can't find something sooner. Had you gotten settled at all, before heading out to hunt little green lantern-bearers?
