Test Drive Meme

Applications will open on October 31st at 15:00 EST and close on November 08th at 14:59 EST
— Reply with a character you wish to test in the game's setting.
— Feel free to use one of the prompts below or make one of your own!
— Tag around! This is a panfandom RP, so don't hesitate to tag both castmates and non-castmates.
— Most importantly, have fun!
1/ Welcome To The World Of Crystallis!
You have seen reality shatter and collapse around you, in the depths of the void you found a Crystal and now you are in the city of Aqures Ixen, surrounded by Moogles and people as lost and confused as you are. On the bright side, everyone thinks you're a legendary Hero! On the downside, they expect you to save the world. Maybe their expectations are a bit too much. Thankfully, you're not abandoned to your fate as a Moogle explains to you everything you need to know. It's probably time to get to know your companions in misfortune. Besides, it seems this has occurred very often this past year-- Maybe the characters who have been here for longer than you may help.
2/ Do You Like Your New Life?
No? Well, either way, you better get used to it, to your new powers, to your new house, to the ball of fur that follows your every steps—Who knows, maybe you'll even make some friends here. Besides, even if everyone expects you to save the world, fighting isn't the only way to do so. Maybe you could open a shop to help and properly equip your friends who are actually eager to fight. Maybe you could try and gather people who think it is possible to negotiate with the Calamity, you could even participate in the research on the Crystals— Or you could make sure your house is the prettiest of them all in Aqures Ixen. Anything is possible!
3/ Neighborhood Woes...
The government of Aqures Ixen is sorry, but there are too many of you Heroes of Light. Hence why there are no free houses left in district dedicated to housing you. This may also be why you're not alone in the house that was given to you. Hopefully you're not living with a mad villain plotting to take over the world and hopefully your neighbor isn't a singer who doesn't know how to sing. On the bright side, you may have be living with someone very cool and maybe an artist of great talent lives next door! It's just not likely.
4/ Crystallis De Chocobo
Upon arrival, your Moogle gave you a map of Crystallis. This world may be a bit big for you to explore, so why not go to the Chocobo Farm and ask for a Chocobo? These big birds can't fly, but they're much more efficient than horses when it comes to travelling. Maybe it's your first time riding a Chocobo; it might be a good idea to have someone with you in case something goes wrong. Or maybe the old man at the farm didn't have any Chocobos left and gave you some Chocobo Lure© so you can go and capture your own. You can find details on Chocobo Capture here.
5/ A Thing Called Mognet
Hopefully you weren't used to Internet and cellphones back home. Otherwise, you might be a tiny bit confused when your Moogle returns to you with a stack of letters. Or maybe someone else's Moogle is coming to you with a voice message it learnt by heart and is now going to recite it to you with a lot of Kupo. That's how the "network" works here.
6/ A Thing Called Strike
In spite of how old-fashioned it is, Mognet is very useful and odds are that you may have become dependent on it. Hopefully not, because one local tradition seems to be Mognet Strikes. Nobody knows any more whether the Moogles have legitimate reasons to go on strike or if they are just lazy. But today, Mognet is down, and to get information you have no choice but going to the public board in the third district or in taverns.
7/ I Believe I Can fly~
You are on an Airship! Airships regularly depart from Aqures Ixen and stop by most major cities in the world, so they're the perfect means of transportation for you to go and explore this world. You can also borrow the Heroes of Light's official Airship, the Enterprise and some characters even have their own airship! You can go anywhere in a matter of hours — One can only hope you don’t have motion sickness.
8/ Exploration
Enough expository banter. Now is the time to explore. Maybe rather than spending most of your time in Aqures Ixen, you'd rather spend it living in Balicea, or betting on Chocobo Races in Trano Golsaucia. Or maybe you'd rather go and explore the ancient ruins that may hold some precious information in the continent of ruins. With Airships and Chocobos at your disposal, you can go nearly anywhere!
9/ Random Encounter
You were minding your own business walking around, and suddenly monsters attacked you! Time to put to use the skills you've learned with your Jobs! Alternatively, maybe this encounter isn't random at all, and you have been sent on a mission to kick some imperial asses in the war confronting the Heran Empire and the Republic of Esdham. Good luck!
10/ Getting Jobs Is Hard
It all started when you asked Cid to give you a new Job. What could and should have been a formality, quickly turned into a trial. All you wanted was a Job, and here you are in the wild, hunting for a Malboro Vine. Or maybe you are in some ancient and decrepit ruins looking for an artifact. Or yet again, maybe he simply asked you to assist him to clean the laboratory. Getting new Jobs is not easy. Consider yourself happy though, at least you don't have to do that alone.
11/ The World Is Subject To Unrelenting Pain and Suffering…
This is why you should play a game. After all, there are things a lot more important than saving the world: Blitzball is one of them. Triple Triad is another. Why don't you take a break and do something different for once; anyone wanting to play Blitzball is given a special potion allowing them to breath underwater, whereas someone who wants to play Triple Triad should have no difficulties finding veterans more than happy to get rid of their low level cards.
12/ Events Of The Past
Missed an event you would have liked to participate in? The Test Drive Meme is the perfect place to play this event without being restricted by the game's chronology! Maybe you would have liked to be lost and attacked from all sides in the creepy Magitek Research Facility or maybe you'd have liked to celebrate the Christmas of Crystallis. Yet again, maybe you would have preferred to regain your true powers and subsequently be on your path to death, as in The Night of the Thirteen Moogles or chase ghosts for a living. Or how about reliving some of your Worst Memories or fighting in A War for future of the world?
13/ Wild Card
Don't like the options offered here? Go crazy and choose what you want to do in this world!

Anise Tatlin | Tales of the Abyss
[For all the time she'd been in Crystallis, this was actually Anise's first trip to Trano Golsaucia. It was a shame, too, because it would have made the last few months fly by. This is exactly her kind of place.]
[Or it was her kind of place until she realized that there was a minimum age for gambling. No matter how many vendors she went up to (or how much she worked her charm), it was to no avail. Nobody was letting her bet on those chocobo races.]
[She wasn't going to let that keep her down though; it was time for plan B.]
[She finds the nicest (most naive) looking person that she can and runs up to them, a smile on her face. This was guaranteed to work!]
Hey, can you do me a favor? It's really important to me, and it'll be a big help!
[10]
[Anise knew she was overdue for a new job, and that meant one thing: asking Cid.]
[Usually this wasn't a problem; the jobs were almost all monster-hunting, and even though those might be a pain, they were still kinda fun. But this? This wasn't what she signed up for.]
[Her task was paperwork of all things. It wasn't even the fun kind of paperwork (if they're could be called such a thing), it was all collating and copying and mind-numbing.]
[She'd set up shop in the library to get it done, but between procrastinating and screaming in frustration, it was slow-going. Somebody lend a girl a hand?]
[13]
[Up to you! Feel free to PM if you wanna plot out stuff.]
8
Naive? The answer is debatable, but Anise is an adorable little girl and there's absolutely no reason not to give the benefit of the doubt.]
Of course! Can't say no to someone in need! [He stuffs his instrument and earnings into his bag. Surprisingly, it fits into such a small space. It's definitely due to some sort of Job magic.] Are you lost? Need an extra few gil for some candy? Gotta find a better seat to watch the Chocobo race?
8
[Anise pauses before responding. She needed to play this right.]
Yeah, I'm, uh, really lost! I'm really lost and I need to get back to Aqures Ixen, and I need more money. I wanted to get it from betting on the chocobo races, but the mean old man running the stand won't let me!
[Was she overdoing it? Probably. Would it still work? She hoped so.]
8
No, no, don't worry about gettin' enough for a ticket. I got plenty to spare. Here, it's five hundred to Aqures Ixen, right?
[He pulls out his borderline alarmingly small money bag and reaches in for the right coins. This is why Sylvia is his traveling partner. He'd lose all their funds in a matter of hours.]
Re: 8
[Anise looks up at Wander with the sweetest (and most guilt-inducing) sad smile she can muster.]
Thank you, mister. I came all this way to see the chocobo races, but I guess that'll have to wait for next time. Whenever that is...
[She trails off as she looks down. Was she overacting? Probably. But that just might do the trick!]
no subject
Oh, no no! Tickets don't cost much. [Fortunately, he has enough gil for two. It shouldn't be too bad, right? It's to make a little girl happy.] We can visit the races together, but only if you hold my hand the whole time, alright?
no subject
[Still, if this is enough to get her in, there's a good chance that she can talk him into placing her bets on the inside.]
Thank you so much, mister~!
no subject
Wander can bend over for anything a small kid asks him to, but safety concerns come first.]
No problem, miss. Name's Wander. [He reaches out for Anise as if going to shake her hand.]
10
[It just so happens that she's returning her last trashy horror-romance book, sliding The Cursed Manacles into the return slot. Now to pick out something new.]
[As she turns to head toward her favorite aisle, one of those frustrated screams causes Rukia to freeze in her tracks. Who has the audacity to shriek like that in the library?! Frowning, she moves forward...and stops, her irritated expression immediately brightening.]
Anise! You've awakened again? It's been quite some time.
[She approaches the table with a wide and happy smile.]
Are you well?
10
[Anise lights up when she sees her old friend, not in the least because it gave her an actual reason to avoid doing the paperwork.]
It has been a long time, hasn't it? [She chuckles, a little awkwardly.] I wanna hear all about you! How are the cheesecakes coming?
no subject
[She folds her arms with a proud smile, obviously pleased at the results of her hard work and tutelage.]
Actually I've been doing a lot of the cooking for my household lately. They did me a great service by rescuing a doppelganger of someone I was very close to in my younger days. I feel it's the least I can do to show my gratitude.
[But that reminds her...]
If you have the time, I would like to hear your recommendations for boxed lunches. Jade was also responsible for the doppelganger's rescue, and as he doesn't live with us, repaying his kindness is proving a bit more difficult. As you two are rather close, you might have some suggestions.
[Rukia drops her arms as she takes a seat at the table, taking some of the paperwork to lend Anise a hand with it. It's not like it'll hurt her any.]
I'd like to hear how you're doing as well. Are you living in the same place? What do you think of your roommates?
no subject
[But she quickly forgets all of that once Rukia asks for that favor. The cogs in her brain are working, but they're having trouble processing this new information.]
Wait, wait, hold up. You want to make boxed lunches for Jade? Like, bright red eyes, looks kind of like a supervillian Jade?
[Did he even eat real food? Well, okay, Anise had cooked for him enough times to know he did. But she also wasn't entirely sure he didn't season his boxed lunches with the blood of his enemies.]
no subject
[Rukia sits back in her chair, puzzled at the sheer shock Anise demonstrates. Is it really so surprising?]
Apparently he neglects his health when he immerses himself in his research. The least I can do is ensure that he's eating properly.
[It still seems like it really isn't enough, though. It isn't as if he always skips lunch, and she doubts he wants someone to constantly fuss over him like a mother hen. She sighs.]
Would that I could demonstrate my gratitude in a more substantial way. For now, this is all I can think to do for him in return for his kindness.
no subject
[Even though if he did Anise would get access too, so she couldn't really complain. Also she needed to find some pictures of that outfit Peony put together to show Rukia later.]
[Anise can understand, at least, that Rukia isn't wrong. And she's starting to feel kinda guilty about it.]
Yeah, I guess you're right. He does pull a lot of extra hours at the lab sometimes. But he never really seemed like the kind of guy people would bring food for.
[When they weren't asking for favors, anyway.]
no subject
[All right, Rukia supposes she can't really argue that. Jade certainly does have his moments of dire mischief. He made her spit out her coffee, and deflected it with such grace and ease.]
True. He does seem to delight in needling people.
[She smiles as she leans over the paperwork once more.]
Even so, I can never hope to truly repay him for what he's done for me. I'm proud to call him an ally, and a friend.

A smile tugged at his lips. Looking back, he really had missed Anise.
That didn't mean he was going to rush to her rescue, though. Jade took his time finishing writing his notes and returning the book to its shelf. Only after his business was done did he stroll over to where she'd set up and look over her shoulder.]
My my... I see you're having fun over here.
no subject
[Anise had been trying really hard to concentrate on her paperwork, and even though it wasn't really working, she was enough into it that she didn't notice someone behind her. But once she realized who it was, she couldn't help busting into a smile.]
Colonel, it's really you! [She hadn't been that worried, but knowing how things could go in Crystallis...yeah, she'd been kinda worried. She was really excited to catch up; after they got the important stuff out of the way, of course.]
Say, do you have a few minutes to help a girl out?
no subject
[What, had she thought a little thing like being murdered in cold blood would keep him down?]
So quick to ask for a favor, too... You're not happy just because you now have my brain at your disposal, are you?
[Really, not even a hello? Jade gave her the totally genuine hurt look of a man who was being cruelly used.]
no subject
[Instead, she's gonna focus on the positives.]
Well, I was just thinking that two heads are better than one! ♪ The sooner we finish, the sooner we can catch up. I wanna hear all about what's happened while I was gone!
[She also really really wanted this paperwork done.]
Cuppa Kupo?
She chats happily with her regular customers who are happy to see that she's feeling better. The perky brunette greets every customer who enters the shop and guides them to the closest available tables that are decorated with painted mini pumpkins and advertising the specials for the month. There's also some new staff on board that she'd guiding in the right direction with their tasks.
Overall, Anise will find that Selphie has lived up to the instructions that were left behind by her friend those few months ago.
Make money and make chaos.]
hells yeah
[But she didn't know how many months she'd been gone, and what could have happened in her absence. She immediately rushed over to the cafe. As soon as she opened the door, she could see it: everything was mayhem.]
Selphie, it's perfect!
I'm going to quietly thread jack this indiscreetly
[ And this is Mikleo nearly toppling into Anise as she opens the door. The water seraph had been spending a considerable amount of time helping Selphie with all the Cuppa Kupo things the brief letter exchanges he made with Anise.
He was carrying a Halloween themed parfait that he managed to put together for the brunette to try and he almost ran into Anise with it. Of course, it sounded like they knew Selphie so he doesn't really question her outburst. Unfortunately, he's only talked to Anise in letters so he has no idea who she is in person. ]
Are you alright?
the derp in this thread quietly approves :P
Or at least, until Mikleo was about to waste food. Selphie quickly relieves the water seraph of his new treat. It gets placed on a tray of a passing moogle waiter with clear instruction from Selphie to put it on the table at the back of the cafe.]
Anise! You're back!
[The bat wings on the back of Selphie's uniform bob up and down with the perky brunette's excitement as she grabs their hands and starts pulling them toward the back.]
C'mon to the back! Both of you.
Re: the derp in this thread quietly approves :P
It's nice to see you again! You've gotta fill me in on everything that happened.
[Although, it probably is better if they do that in the back. Anise eagerly follows Selphie's lead.]
no subject
[ Once Selphie catches his masterpiece, the water seraph follows after the two girls. Honestly, he doesn't know too much about the whole running of cafes but he's been doing his best to catch up to Selphie's pace-- if she even had a pace at all.
It's not terrible here and he might be able to learn about Anise as a person. After all, he's a stranger to the girl. Letters didn't count as anything. ]
