Test Drive Meme

Applications will open on June 30th at 15:00 EST and close on July 08th at 14:59 EST
— Reply with a character you wish to test in the game's setting.
— Feel free to use one of the prompts below or make one of your own!
— Tag around! This is a panfandom RP, so don't hesitate to tag both castmates and non-castmates.
— Most importantly, have fun!
1/ Welcome To The World Of Crystallis!
You have seen reality shatter and collapse around you, in the depths of the void you found a Crystal and now you are in the city of Aqures Ixen, surrounded by Moogles and people as lost and confused as you are. On the bright side, everyone thinks you're a legendary Hero! On the downside, they expect you to save the world. Maybe their expectations are a bit too much. Thankfully, you're not abandoned to your fate as a Moogle explains to you everything you need to know. It's probably time to get to know your companions in misfortune. Besides, it seems this has occurred very often this past year-- Maybe the characters who have been here for longer than you may help.
2/ Do You Like Your New Life?
No? Well, either way, you better get used to it, to your new powers, to your new house, to the ball of fur that follows your every steps—Who knows, maybe you'll even make some friends here. Besides, even if everyone expects you to save the world, fighting isn't the only way to do so. Maybe you could open a shop to help and properly equip your friends who are actually eager to fight. Maybe you could try and gather people who think it is possible to negotiate with the Calamity, you could even participate in the research on the Crystals— Or you could make sure your house is the prettiest of them all in Aqures Ixen. Anything is possible!
3/ Neighborhood Woes...
The government of Aqures Ixen is sorry, but there are too many of you Heroes of Light. Hence why there are no free houses left in district dedicated to housing you. This may also be why you're not alone in the house that was given to you. Hopefully you're not living with a mad villain plotting to take over the world and hopefully your neighbor isn't a singer who doesn't know how to sing. On the bright side, you may have be living with someone very cool and maybe an artist of great talent lives next door! It's just not likely.
4/ Crystallis De Chocobo
Upon arrival, your Moogle gave you a map of Crystallis. This world may be a bit big for you to explore, so why not go to the Chocobo Farm and ask for a Chocobo? These big birds can't fly, but they're much more efficient than horses when it comes to travelling. Maybe it's your first time riding a Chocobo; it might be a good idea to have someone with you in case something goes wrong. Or maybe the old man at the farm didn't have any Chocobos left and gave you some Chocobo Lure© so you can go and capture your own. You can find details on Chocobo Capture here.
5/ A Thing Called Mognet
Hopefully you weren't used to Internet and cellphones back home. Otherwise, you might be a tiny bit confused when your Moogle returns to you with a stack of letters. Or maybe someone else's Moogle is coming to you with a voice message it learnt by heart and is now going to recite it to you with a lot of Kupo. That's how the "network" works here.
6/ A Thing Called Strike
In spite of how old-fashioned it is, Mognet is very useful and odds are that you may have become dependent on it. Hopefully not, because one local tradition seems to be Mognet Strikes. Nobody knows any more whether the Moogles have legitimate reasons to go on strike or if they are just lazy. But today, Mognet is down, and to get information you have no choice but going to the public board in the third district or in taverns.
7/ I Believe I Can fly~
You are on an Airship! Airships regularly depart from Aqures Ixen and stop by most major cities in the world, so they're the perfect means of transportation for you to go and explore this world. You can also borrow the Heroes of Light's official Airship, the Enterprise and some characters even have their own airship! You can go anywhere in a matter of hours — One can only hope you don’t have motion sickness.
8/ Exploration
Enough expository banter. Now is the time to explore. Maybe rather than spending most of your time in Aqures Ixen, you'd rather spend it living in Balicea, or betting on Chocobo Races in Trano Golsaucia. Or maybe you'd rather go and explore the ancient ruins that may hold some precious information in the continent of ruins. With Airships and Chocobos at your disposal, you can go nearly anywhere!
9/ Random Encounter
You were minding your own business walking around, and suddenly monsters attacked you! Time to put to use the skills you've learned with your Jobs! Alternatively, maybe this encounter isn't random at all, and you have been sent on a mission to kick some imperial asses in the war confronting the Heran Empire and the Republic of Esdham. Good luck!
10/ Getting Jobs Is Hard
It all started when you asked Cid to give you a new Job. What could and should have been a formality, quickly turned into a trial. All you wanted was a Job, and here you are in the wild, hunting for a Malboro Vine. Or maybe you are in some ancient and decrepit ruins looking for an artifact. Or yet again, maybe he simply asked you to assist him to clean the laboratory. Getting new Jobs is not easy. Consider yourself happy though, at least you don't have to do that alone.
11/ The World Is Subject To Unrelenting Pain and Suffering…
This is why you should play a game. After all, there are things a lot more important than saving the world: Blitzball is one of them. Triple Triad is another. Why don't you take a break and do something different for once; anyone wanting to play Blitzball is given a special potion allowing them to breath underwater, whereas someone who wants to play Triple Triad should have no difficulties finding veterans more than happy to get rid of their low level cards.
12/ Events Of The Past
Missed an event you would have liked to participate in? The Test Drive Meme is the perfect place to play this event without being restricted by the game's chronology! Maybe you would have liked to be lost and attacked from all sides in the creepy Magitek Research Facility or maybe you'd have liked to celebrate the Christmas of Crystallis. Yet again, maybe you would have preferred to regain your true powers and subsequently be on your path to death, as in The Night of the Thirteen Moogles or chase ghosts for a living. Or how about reliving some of your Worst Memories or fighting in A War for future of the world?
13/ Wild Card
Don't like the options offered here? Go crazy and choose what you want to do in this world!

Seifer Almasy | FFVIII | RUINS EXPLORATION/QUEST
It was pretty much a suicide mission in his opinion. He was dancing with death every step of the way as he learned his way around being such a lowly level of skills as a Magitek Knight. He knew he'd get used to it eventually but he needed money, a lot of it, if he wanted to travel far and wide. To learn all he could about the world he was currently in.
He didn't like not knowing his way around, it left him so damn unsettled. A tickle in his throat, a worry in his mind that he had no exit and no way out. Right now, he was checking his corners, as he went deeper into the ruins and looking out for a Tonberry or two. He had only gotten eight knives so far, so that meant twelve more to go. And he had managed to kill them before they got too close, his red mage skills coming in handy.
He watched as another Tonberry was alerted to his presence and his lips curled up in the corner, amused. His gunblade was poised out, ready for battle.] Come on, you little green bastard. Show me the vengeance for your fallen comrades. [He went in.]
[OOC]: I apologize if I wasn't allowed to answer the other posts, I wasn't sure how this worked. I'm still kind of dreamwidth retarded around here.

Unfortunately for Seifer, Squall already had this tonberry marked. He wasn’t aware of Seifer being in the same vicinity as him until Seifer remarked in that loud irritating voice of his until it was too late. Squall was already coming into the room from the other side and used Power Break on the tonberry and slashed into it a moment later. Although hearing Seifer, he dodge rolled to the side and gave him an even glare while the tonberry recoiled in pain.
There was the distinct clicking of his gunblade as he stood up straight to regard his childhood rival.]
...
[So Almasy, who saw the tonberry first…?]
no subject
It was recognizable, too familiar and a smirk slowly came over his face, hand coming to rest on his hip as his gunblade went over his shoulder, tapping in amusement with a smirk at the icy glare he received. So, Leonhart was here too? Guess it wasn't so bad, being here with an old rival then.] Nice to see an old friend, [bullshit on the friends part.] but that tonberry is clearly mine, so you can get lost now.
no subject
If you haven’t noticed, I made the first move.
[It’s not his fault Seifer decided to hesitate by talking to the tonberry first… His glare still in place, he refused to move from his spot as he adjusted his weapon in his hand. There was a flare of certain irritation in him that he only got when Seifer was around to pester him.
The tonberry seemed to have other ideas and turned to face the both of them. It started to waddle calmly over.]
no subject
[Same old Squall, it'd probably take a firaga to get him pissed off and ready to knock his head off. Wouldn't that just be beautiful? Actually get the ice king run at him, kicking and screaming. The eyebrow twitch actually made him smile cruelly. Ah, he guessed some things would never change about himself. Much as he tried to be good these days, it wasn't a sure thing.]
Well, Squall. I was about to make a move until you came in here, waving your gunblade around like freaking Odin on crack.
[The glare only fueled his desire to anger in the younger teen, the glare might be indicative that things go sway eitherway. He heard the tell tale sign of the tonberry drawing near, little warbled hiccups in a roll with it's molasses movement.] You know what? This is mine and I don't give up what's mine.
[He dashed past Squall, slashing the tonberry across the face and drawing blood. It tumbled around but managed to stay up right, still coming toward them.]
no subject
[Leave it to Seifer to respond with such a shotgun response. He let Seifer dash ahead, instead content momentarily with reaching up and pinching the bridge of his nose in annoyance.
But Seifer was an idiot if he thought Squall was just going to let him take his kill when he had already attacked it. Although he’s not surprised at all that Seifer moved in because it always seemed like Seifer just did things to piss him off.
But the tonberry wasn’t down yet so he decided to ignore Seifer’s comments and attack the tonberry again. This time with his own Magitek Knight skills. Lifting his gunblade he attacked with Magic Bullet. Three rapid shots of ice hammered into the tonberry and it reeled backwards. Without hesitating he came in close to attack once more.
He’d just have to kill it first too.]
no subject
He wasn't about to let him get that last word in, no matter how easily it would be to give in and find another tonberry, besides, it's better to irritate the kid than just back off. Maybe, he'd make his quota for entertainment for the day.
He moved forward, after Squall attacked and became relentless. He cast a fire spell, then followed up with a fire magic bullet attack with two more slashed right down the middle, drawing blood from the damn thing. It let out a little squeak and tumbled around, but didn't do much else besides move forward after recovering. He smirked, looking at Squall.] Having fun yet, Leonhart?
no subject
There was a certain weird respect between the two of them, both being Gunblade users and years of bickering, beating the crap out of each other, or both- so the fire spell surprises Squall. Squall didn’t have any magic like that so seeing a small difference in skill slightly interests him. But only slightly.
In response he used Flame Tongue from his Warrior skillset. His weapon enveloped itself in fire and he slashed the tonberry upwards with a clean stroke. It made a strange snickering sound before it turned on Squall and slashed its knife at him. Squall just barely managed to dodge the slice to his abdomen with a quick step backwards.
Everybody’s Grudge was going to be any minute now, he guessed.]
How many have you killed?
[Not asking for Seifer to indulge himself, but he knew he would. It was a question purely for information on how powerful the attack would be.]

*squees at Seifer* (Don't mind me)
Her silence from the Vampire job combined with that she usually tried to keep herself to the form of a small bat, meant she'd been successful so far. It also meant she couldn't ignore the louder person who was actively stalking the little green monsters. She sighed, hoping he knew what he was doing, and changed back to her own form to follow. Just in case he didn't, and she might be able to help.]
hehehe <3 also LYDIA! <3
He moved forward, he cast fire and followed it up with his gunblade in a swift arc, one handed, across the tonberry's body. The thing tumbled around, lantern shaking and then fell to the ground.] Sorry, little guy but gil is way more important than your life right now.
[sides, you're kinda evil he thought to himself as he searched the body for the knife and gil. The gil was guaranteed but the knife not so much. Once he got to the knife, the blade was broken in half, probably because he hit it at some point.] Well, ain't that just a bucket load of bullsnit. [he sighed, rubbing a hand over the back of his neck tiredly.]
[As he made his way in search of another one, he felt like he he was being watched. Going deeper into the ruins, he couldn't help feeling it even more. His eyebrow arched and he looked around slowly,] I really, really, don't like being watched. If you continue, I'm liable to kick your ass and hand it to you. [because he was more concerned with someone watching him, coupled with the fact that he was tired, he didn't notice the zombie currently sneaking up on him.]
Sorry, I love my knight-types, dark or light.
Of course, some of that had changed since she'd come to this world. She'd had some teachers, and had to learn self-defense, which was more than just dodging and sneaking. She'd also learned some things--like the value of the element of surprise!
SHE clearly saw the zombie, and it was easier to move to hit it herself and knock it away from him. Lydia was less-in-danger than he was, in some ways. Rapier out and striking quickly, dagger in her off-hand and she was light on her feet as the small, dark-haired 15 year old darted out of seemingly nowhere.]
it's cool. I like my girls dark and gloomy lol
They learned early, to be hardened to danger and war before they were able to really grasp what even humanity was. He knew that first hand but then, he always had been hardened around the edges with a chip on his shoulder. Much as he hated to admit it to himself.
The little girl; he watched as she went against a zombie, so hideous, he doubted it's own mother ever loved it. Seifer was an ass and of course, he would underestimate her ability to protect herself, so he stepped in and started fighting right beside her but he took it upon himself to take all the glory.]
“Aren't you a little young to be out here?” [he asked, but his tone wasn't exactly condescending, and it wasn't full of concern either. The corner of his lip curled up, almost kindly as he sliced across the diseased looking stomach of the creature.]
*chuckle* Good to know? :-p
"I'm small for my age. Don't let it fool you."
[But she was clearly used to working and adapting with others, and her height to her advantage. Keeping low as he sliced at the stomach and she went for the legs. Quick strikes, in and out fast.]
*laughs.* dunno, maybe
“So, you say.” [he paused.] “How old are you?”
[As they attacked it together, he noted the way she made quick work of it's legs, bits of flesh and clotted blood flying from it's body. Color him impressed, he always thought the smaller ones back home couldn't hold their own especially because he'd seen them crying and freaking the hell out when danger happened. He kept attacking as the thing grunted and cast zombie on him. All this time spent with the tonberries and he hadn't thought to go after these guys for practice, so it was no surprise a cure was cast and made him feel sicker than a dead chocobo.]
“Snit, I don't have esuna in my inventory. You got anything?” [This would have been a lot easier if he could junction a Guardian Force and draw esuna from some beast. He doesn't want to go out like a putz by some simple ass monster that hardly dents good reasons to die.]

Good thing it's a Test Drive. Not sure this'd work in game. ^^
XD it's cool, I'm not sure if you can snap your fingers with gloves. Also, Why can't it be reaaaaal?
B/c I'm not sure how friendly monsters work? I might just roll a D100 to see if we find one.
I read that hamsters aren't friendly ha. but okay, I'll follow your lead.
One of them is. Sadly, D100 was not in our favor. *sigh*
Darn. D: This sucks for the infamous Seifer.
It does, but the thread has been awesome.
I've been having a blast with you, darlng <3

had to start a new comment. it was stretching my screen
[he chuckled a little at her proud grin, she was actually kinda cute to be honest. Kinda reminded him of a porcelain doll.]
[he arched his blonde brow.] You can turn into a friggin' bat? [then he laughed.] That's classic.
[once she got a hold of his arm and started dragging him along, he blinked and almost stumbled.] Holysnit, you trying to break my arm? [he laughed but winced and ached from the faster walking but he wouldn't complain. He never was a complainer.]
[he nodded.] I think she'd enjoy meeting you but like you, I hope she doesn't end up here or Raijin for that matter. I'll just have to finish whatever job I have to do here and then go home. I'll miss them in the meantime though. [He was being sentimental, but he didn't care too much. He had been through things that made him change somewhat and he didn't think Lydia would go out of her way to tell anyone about what they talked about.]
[he snickered.] Wow, that sounds really whitebread.
[a smirk came to his lips as he continued listening.] Boy crazy girls rub me the wrong way. To me they got heads full of snit and air.
The Neitherworld? What exactly is that? And why would your bestfriend live there? [his eyebrow arched yet again, curious and confused as to what it was. As they continued to talk, he noted they were halfway back to the kingdom, just a little more and they'd be there.]
Is that a bad thing?
[She shook her head, and it wasn't that she was strong so much as he was really not at his best.]
No, just worried about you. I wouldn't be able to do this if you weren't infected.
[Because she has gathered his pride does mean something to him. And really she's petite at best. Just a very forceful and strong personality, so at least some of this is also willpower.]
Bertha really isn't quite that bad. She's got other interests too. Mother thinks she needs to grow into her looks.
[Lydia felt that Bertha was fine as she was, but could see what her mother meant. In some ways.]
The Neitherworld is just that. My best friend lives there because he's a ghost. The Ghost with the Most, actually. A prankster supreme, but he always makes me laugh--and until here, he's always been my adventuring partner.
just a little annoying
[he nodded.] You got a point there, small lady.
[his pride always had meant something to him, but these days he knew when to swallow it, like now. He could only go so far before he broke anyway.]
Most teens do. I wasn't the best looking guy when I was in my early teens, but look how hot I turned out now. [he smirked rather arrogantly but remember the brief bout of acne he had, almost makes him shudder.]
Ha... friends with a ghost. That's interesting. I don't think I've ever had the pleasure of meeting and befriending a ghost. I'm guessing you two have a lot of fun.
My apologies.
[That nickname also made her smile and laugh quietly in enjoyment.]
Like I said, I'm strange and unusual. We get up to a lot of things, but it's usually pretty fun. Sometimes scary, but mostly fun.
[As for teens growing into their looks hmm? That definitely makes her giggle, and she stops them enough to look him over. Playful, amused.]
Well, I think I can safely say green isn't your color, but I like the smile and I can only imagine what your hair was like when you were younger. How old are you, anyways?
no need to apologize <3 not your fault
[He grins at the laugh.]
What's the scariest thing that's ever happened, eh?
[he snorts, shaking his head.] Aw, she likes my smile. [he reached down and ruffled her hair to annoy her.]
About the same but I'm 18, almost 19.
Good, because this is way too fun.
Definitely! <3

[Chrom would probably never guess that Seifer was feeling any sort of worry or insecurity about their task. He seemed to be perfectly competent with his gunblade (a weapon that Chrom was very much looking forward to wielding himself someday soon), and they'd felled eight of the murderous creatures so far with no grievous incidents.]
[He rotates his wrist, spinning his sword before grasping it with both hands and leaping forward to deliver a devastating cross-slash, imbuing his strike with the Armor Break ability so that Seifer's next attack will deal more damage. Pretty routine by now. At the end of his attack he jumps back into position, taking a defensive stance. Definitely not a good idea to stay within stabbing range of these things.]
Look alive. There are more coming.
[In the distance there are three bobbing orange lights, slowly swaying toward the two swordsmen. Chrom sighs.]
I don't think I'll understand the need for just one of these knives, let alone twenty. A blacksmith could surely craft something of equal or superior quality.
no subject
[Seifer wasn't insecure or suicidal, but to himself, and occasionally Fujin, he could admit when he needed to beef up his skills when they were new. He works with Chrom easily enough, he's a well adversed partner and far more matched for the tonberries, even though he'll refuse to admit it.
He was impressed by him however, and didn't hesitate to say so.] “You are a hell of a fighter. I think once I get better at this whole thing, you and I need to spar. Just to test our limits and snit.”
[He nods, smirking and ready for them, like he always is. Then he dashes toward the one they're currently fighting, and slashes it across the face, making it ooze blood. He almost feels bad for it but that doesn't stop him from doing another slice across it's shoulder, making it stutter, like it might fall.] “Let them come. I ain't afraid of little squeaky monsters.” [even if they were a fearsome foe.]
Well, from what I know, is you can refine them into certain things and their steel isn't like the steel you can get anywhere else. Armor Piercing Ammo for gun wielders I imagine, if they still work like that in this world.
[he shrugged his shoulders, the lights were drawing closer and he knew, no matter how skilled the two of them were, there was no way they'd be able to take on three at once, unless they went separately for each one, and then shared in the fight with the third one. That's if they got rid of the one they were working on now. ]
no subject
[Despite the seriousness of their situation, it seems like they're working well together.
They might even achieve a C-Rank status after this. It's not often Chrom gets to cross blades with a fellow sword-lover at that, so he's very much looking forward to one of his favorite pasttimes.][When Seifer goes for the front, Chrom angles to the side, so they can catch the Tonberry between them and topple their foe at last. He stoops to pick up the blade and pass it handle-first to Seifer. This is his quest, after all, Chrom's just along for the extra support and to serve as a guide.]
Is that so? We don't have their ilk in my world.
[Now he's kind of curious about whether or not a sword can be fashioned from the steel. He does still need a blade with the dark elemental infused into it, and he can think of nothing more appropriate than Tonberry steel to serve such a purpose.]
[But yeah. Three lights might be three too many. They've got time to discuss strategies, however, thanks to their slow, plodding gait.]
What do you think? Should we try to divide their numbers by splitting up, or fight them all at once?

[he takes the chef blade easily enough and puts it in his bag.] Thanks. [He wouldn't need a guide if he wasn't so infant to the world here. Infact, he had bristled at the idea of being handed one by Mars, or well... suggested until Seifer cracked to get the retarded moogle off his back.]
I've never been much for guns, aside from my gunblade. Guns are too quick, unsatisfying. Blades make battle a lot more interesting.
[He turns his thoughtful eyes on the tonberries, considering their next move. He would prefer taking all three on at once by himself, if he had to but Mars would probably give him an earful over It.]
Split up. Fall back and fight the third one together. Don't worry, I can handle my own.

[He's heard of gunblades, but he just couldn't figure out how a gun could fire bullets at the same time. He supposes it's handy to have two weapons in one, but until he starts mastering the Magitek Knight job, he won't know for sure just how they work.]
[But there's time enough for small talk later. He raises his blade as a friendly salute.]
Gods be with us both, then. Shout if you find yourself overwhelmed.
[Chrom means that in the best way, he truly does. Just because Seifer is new doesn't mean he's incompetent as a fighter. But there's always a chance either of them could run into more than just Tonberries out here. Those Black Elementals can be a nuisance if neither of them have any Light-based magic.]
[With that, Chrom takes off to the right, his tattered white cloak flowing behind him. He just needs one or two to focus on him...]

He remembers the days of deciding on it being his weapon of choice, the long hard days after classes of training and weekends trying to get better at the cost of a social life.
In the end, it's had been worth it.]
Sure thing, but trust me, I'll don't need too much help. [he says, waving a dismissive hand nonchalanty.]
[Seifer takes off to the left, feet dashing as the tonberry moves slower than molasses, the third one they're not fighting at the moment is further back and might give them time to destroy the first before it makes it too close. He runs forward, hitting the tonberry with a well executed slash, coupled with magic bullet twice as it tumbles around.
Jumping back, he realizes by the end of this journey, he never wants to see another green little monster for as long as he lived or at least for as long as he was here.
The tonberry uses everyone's grudge but he manages to duck out of the way just in time before it ends up taking away too much of his health. He has cure but he's not about to find out how much of his mana reserves he can use before running out.
He moves forward again, slicing into the skin of the tonberry twice, and it gives a pained squeak in response. He'd feel bad but the damn thing is an enemy and he's one step closer to finishing his quest.]
